Drop the shrink! Find another one (or not, depending on what you feel you need). Psychiatrists are supposed to help you find your way, not dictate your life to you! God - with all the negative post about docs lately it's a wonder why anyone even bothers to go to them!

I agree with most of the other posts. Your Doc shouldn't be dictating your life. He sounds like a pompous ass in need of Prep H!

I also have a lot of friends in AA. But it's not for everyone. I much prefer not to admit defeat & illness & powerlessness on a daily basis... I don't find that a healthy mindset for me.

There is a book called "Bounderies" by Henry Cloud & John Townsend I read it years ago, and got quite a lot out of it.

Sophia, welcome back, I've been wondering how you are doing.

I think the concensus here is to find another doc. Since you are paying for it, you get to choose one that's you're comfortable with and I wouldn't be comfortable with anyone pushing AA.

You've had a heavy load that's for sure.

I would definitely find another doctor if you have a choice - in Uk on NHS we don't have a choice ! Please do what is best for you !
Not go and see doctor that makes you want to drink more !!!
