    Topa and blurred vision

Hi everone..I'm on day 8 with the Topa and woke up with a slight bit of blurred vision and a little redness in one eye..it went away almost immediately, but I'm freaking out since that is one of the serious side effects noted on the prescription. Has anyone experienced or read anything about it? Would you see if it happened again..what would you do?
    Thanks!
p.s. So far the program is working GREAT for me..I've been more of a binge drinker..able to abstain for extended periods..but lately struggling with it..so this has really got me back on track. My goal is moderation.

      Topa and blurred vision

Hi Gab, thanks. I've been AF for 12 days and plan on staying that way until next week when I go on an artist retreat for 2 weeks. They serve wine at dinner so it's a good place to begin to practice moderation. I started the program prior to going because I knew I'd be tempted to drink my time away...I'll keep an eye on the eyes...I have the 40 something vision issues as well and recall experiencing similar things b4..

        Topa and blurred vision

        Hi, Dilayne and welcome.

Please consult a specialist if you observe blurred vision or pain because, according to Ortho-McNeil, the manufacturer of Topamax, it may require immediate attention. Frankly, I don't know of anyone who has developed "acute myopia and secondary angle closure glaucoma". It is a rare, but serious, potential side effect of Topamax. Symptoms typically present in the first month. It's reversible if caught early and treatment is simple discontinuation of the medication.

I just wanted to reiterate this info from the book and make sure you follow up if necessary. More details are here. Like any drug, this one has potential side effects and it's another reason we encourage folks to work closely with a qualified health care provider.

        Best,

        RJ

          Topa and blurred vision

I've been on Topa for 4 or 5 months and just in the past month or two noticed problems with close up vision problems, like reading fine print or inputing data intry at work. It seems to sorta come and go. I had Lasik about 5 years ago ( mono vision). Thinking about maybe needing an eye exam?? Don't think it is the topa. I will be 46 soon so maybe it is just age creeping up on me....>D

            Topa and blurred vision

Morning..I'm still watching it..it is close up blurred vision, not unlike the regular things that are occuring with my 48 year old eyes, just with the warning, it's very hard for me to make the discernment of whether to contact the doctor or not...no pain, so I'm taking that as a good sign...
