Have you ever simply walked off the job?

Well, it's a decision you gotta take. But frankly, as a matter of principle, I don't let people walk on me anymore either. Never have. At school, I was in trouble because of that - belonging to a minority religious group and being hassled for it, but standing up for what I believe. At work, now with government, I stand up for what I believe, and ready to walk out any moment they go on my nerves. I'm anyway just on a 4 year contract. But nevertheless girlfriend. Don't ever let them walk on you. We are nice people, but nicety has its limits.

        Hi accountable,

by the time you read this you have probably left the job, but why don't you rub salt in it by reporting them to the 'labour exchange ' is that right - not called that in UK, the tax department whoever.

They need shaking up by the sounds of it. I wouldn't normally report people but these sound like employers from Hell !!

Good Luck in your next job and here's hoping it is a million times better - it couldn't be worse !!

Have you ever simply walked off the job?

Accountable, Leave never put it on your resume. I did leave a job once. It's pretty funny. As many know I was a flight attendant, I had worked with Eastern but Eastern went bankrupt so being out of a job I first tried a furniture store (that is where I met and married a customer- the current hubster)left there with notice and went to an office supply /furniture store. All the while waiting for my applications to come through with the other airlines. So while at the office supply place I was clueless! I never worked 1 day just sat there, the owner used me for "eye candy" bring in clients to meet me. Well my job with American came through and I told them I was leaving and they offere me a raise to $40,000 a year to stay. I looked at my boss and said "you don't understand I don't do anything, I mean at all!" So when the final day rolled around for me to leave I went to lunch and they were hard selling me all that morning to stay, so I went to lunch with my boyfriend(current hubster) drank margaritas all afternoon and never went back. They mailed me my final check. So I left a job offer of good money and no work to really do. To go to a job with less money that I really loved. So my sweet, you have to be happy. If it's not for you leave!

Have you ever simply walked off the job?

Thanks you guys. I am prepared to clean up my desk and I am walking out at noon today. I really wouldn't even go today but they hand out your pay cheques. I was thinking about filing with labour relations this morning on my way home from dropping off my husband at his work. I should be compensated for the 47.5 hours I have given them the past 7 weeks. I have nothing to lose and it might just give them what they need in regards to treating their employees like crap.

Bottom line is I am 35 and I came to the point after my abusing alcohol stopped that I wasn't going to be treated like shit anymore. Life is really too short to be miserable and unhappy. There are a lot of opportunities here and I am excited it is Friday, pay day, and my last day! ;-)

Thank you all for being so helpful and sharing your experiences with me. I will let you know if they offer me more money or what happens today. I honestly think even if they offer me a competitive salary, it won't stop me from walking out. The atmosphere is unhealthy. I can get a competitive salary somewhere else where they respect their employees.

Have you ever simply walked off the job?

YOU GO Accountable!!! With that bunch it sounds like you are smart to:

              1. Stay long enough to get your paycheck in hand and
              2. Leave immediately following.

Congratulations! Too many people put up with being walked on when they shouldn't. Less people would get walked on if MORE people would stand up and not take it any more.

              :yougo:

PS - yes there is one job I walked out on with no notice. I reported to the President of the company who was, by a long shot, the biggest A-Hole I EVER worked for. I actually used the "F" word (F-Bomb!) when told him I quit. MAN did that feel good!

Have you ever simply walked off the job?

I walked off two jobs in my life. One was about 15 years ago (I'm 42) and my then employers, who were extremely busy, expected much too much and, like you, I was not appreciated, was expected to work lots of overtime to get things done without extra pay, etc. One day, I left 3 minutes early (no exaggeration) to catch a bus. I was spoken to about it the following day - can you imagine that? I give them hours and hours of overtime every week, and they speak to me about leaving 3 minutes before 5:00 ONE day? The following day, I came into work with resignation letter in hand, detailing my reasons and making special note of my unpaid overtime vs 3 minuts early, and I taped my office key onto the letter, laid it on the boss's desk, and walked out. Felt GREAT.

The other job I quit was supposed to be a 12 month temp job. I was into it for 6 months already and hated it. The women in the office were catty, gossipy and cliquey. The men were pigs. I found out they had planned their annual office picnic thing and that I was purposely not invited. No reason. OK, fine. But the afternoon before the picnic, a group of women from the office walked by on their way to get supplies for the picnic and made a comment to me ... something along the lines of, "Do you need anything? Nevermind." And they all laughed - loudly - as they passed by. I hadn't been treated really badly before that (though I had witnessed lots of bad treatment, etc., toward others). Me, they chose to pretty much completely ignore, even when I asked for help... But that laughing that day really got to me. I e-mailed my resignation letter the next workday (Monday) and never went back.

Re. your job ....... You tried to talk to them about it, and they obviously don't care. You're giving them a lot of extra time with no pay and no thanks. How dare they treat you or anyone like that. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do, and you don't owe them anything. If you can handle it financially and think you can find something else soon, I'd say turn and walk.

A resignation letter is a good idea I think. Gives you something on paper (or computer) to hold onto and it gives you your opportunity to make your statement and let them know exactly what's what. When I e-mailed that regisnation letter, I sent it to everyone in my department, plus the two big shots who ran the place. I got tons of phone calls that morning that I didn't answer ... It felt great, because my e-mail filled everyone in on lots of things that they did not know about, and it "outed" what a few people were doing behind others' backs. I'm sure there was a lot of talk after that, but they had it coming.

Bottom line - take care of yourself and pursue happiness! Sorry for the looong post, but it really hit home with me. Good luck!

Have you ever simply walked off the job?

All I can say Is WOW!!!

You all have such great self esteem and confidence...

I started with my company 7 years ago, and this company is BIG, but there is a huge staff turnover due to not fullfilling agreements, making us work extra hours with no pay, and a general feeling like we are money making hamsters on a wheel so that the top guys can live on BIG salarys off our backs.

I've thought about leaving many times, but don't have the luxury of having a man/husband to fall back on, if I leave I have to wait up to 3 months for my first social security payment, and rent, bills ect don't care if youre having a bad time at work, they want to be paid.

But the upside is, probably to stick it to them, I've made so much money for the company that I recently won an award for outdoing my target by 84%, I got a lovely plaque, lol.

But I have proved a point to the bosses, and to me, that I'm good at what I do, and now they leave me alone to do just that. They near drove me to a nervous breakdown 2 years ago, tried to put on me a full time job because someone had quit, on top of the job I do, I got overwhelmed!! 2 targets, 2 jobs, I just couldn't do it, and they didn't ask, they just told me, thinking I was doing well in my job, let's just put on her someone elses too! A kind of 'we're so happy with you, BACKSLAP!!! The end result is I got a week off stress leave, and they never took it out of my pay. And they hired a lady full time to do that job....

I'm rambling, but do what you have to do, if you can afford to do it, I could'nt, but they have a new respect for me now, and leave me alone to do what I do well, that makes me happy.

                  Love to all, Jas xxx
                  :thanks: :h

Have you ever simply walked off the job?

I was also a flight attendant Mar!...before that I worked in the beauty industry in sales. I took orders over the phone and I had a problem with transposing numbers. I messed things up all the time, but my boss liked me a bit too much and was always trying to get me to go into the stock room with him. I couldn't stand the guy. I finally had enough and took all my stuff out of my desk and left, I was glad to be gone.

Have you ever simply walked off the job?

Well.... I went in today. Of course my supervisor, the foul-mouthed bag wasn't in. I went to the CEO and he had postponed our meeting until Monday (shocker). I thought I would wait patiently until lunch time.... working away......... waiting for the bag to come in and give me my pay cheque. Noon rolls around and no bagatha. I looked for the CEO and the receptionist said he won't be in until later this afternoon. I asked if anyone has heard from my supervisor and everyone said no. So at noon.............. I said I am leaving and that I need to go home to my sick child. (cop-out) But I was SO mad. Nothing went accordingly. I have to go back sometime today to at least pick up my cheque.

I was all worked up and set to blow that Popsicle stand right off the map. Now I have to figure out what to do next. UGH. I will have to just go in on Monday morning when the CEO is there and tell him I am done. Oh well, what can you do?! Totally figures - Murphy's law that this didn't go as I had planned.

                      ARGH!

That stinks. Are they avoiding you? They can't do that forever. They WILL have to give you your paycheck at some point sooner rather than later, right???

Man - I think if I were you the SECOND I got my hands on my check I MIGHT give them the courtesy of resigning in person IF someone would meet with me RIGHT NOW. Otherwise I might just drop the F-bomb and hit the door.

I'm sorry it didn't work out as you planned, but don't let that take all the helium out of your balloon OK?

                        GO! GO! GO!!

Have you ever simply walked off the job?

LOL Doggygirl. I know they are avoiding me. I really don't care. I will be heading down there to get my cheque after I pick my hubby up at 3:30pm. He will come with me (I laugh - I am such a wimp). He wont come in with me, but knowing he is there waiting will give me some GUMPH!

I am going to get it, and going to wave my lovely middle finger at'em and say 'see ya!'.

I don't think I will actually do that - BUT I REALLY WANT TO. I am done. This is crap. They have postponed two meetings and my Supervisor is off for 3 weeks after today. So, you know, just as I and my hubby predicted, they are just putting off the discussion until NEVER.

So, to save my own face, I am quitting today. I am donesy. Even if no one is there, I am sure the bagatha has been there to drop off our cheques. I am taking my money and will concoct a very nice email to send for Monday morning with my resignation.

                          The drama, I tell you........

DO NOT put yourself thru it anymore. I would ask them to mail me my check. If your check does not come in a reasonable amount of time go in there and demand it.

                            Be done with it.
