Do I have a true winning mindset?

Ask any pro athlete and they will tell you that the mental part of the game is huge. Any successful millionaire, etc. same thing.

Looking back through my years with clarity and honesty....I must say I've not had a winning mindset. I got along and that was it for the most part. Things that I had passion for I put special attention into but that was it.

When I was a kid in school I recall standing on the sports field during a game and seeing the kids up front furiously fighting over the ball. I wondered why I didn't get to play much but the answer should have been obvious...I stayed to the back of the field and waited for the ball to come to me. I stood there just hoping...wishing it would come to me....but it rarely did. I felt lonely and frustrated.

I have a challenge with something so very important in my life...my battle with self destruction with alcohol. Over the years I've been saying things to myself like "I hope I do ok this weekend". etc. feeling like I'm not completely in control....mentally wringing my hands in dispair just trying to squeak by somehow. We'll that's crap. I'm sick of just squeaking by. I want to win.

in fact I don't want to just win, I want to dominate!

I don't want to just win this fight...I'm going for a first round knockout.

I don't want to just finish this race....I want to break the tape at the finishing line...look back and notice I can't even see who's in 2nd place because they are so far behind.

I want to break my own "world record" ....then immediately break it again.

if I can be strong enough to mod someday then fine...if not that's also fine. It's not changing this game...I have to win, and I want to.

My mindset is changing. I can feel it. It's starting to take form.

I think our Big D will be on the next box of Wheaties as the new champion!

He will like that because the cheerleaders will be all over him. Dx may not like it so much though! Well, she will love the winning but not the cheerleaders!

Love it Determinator, something must be in the air, because that's the way I have been feeling lately. I used to have that kind of drive and then I gave up right at the top of my game. Its not too late to start again and "feel the burn"...! Good Luck....The Buffinator!

                Wow!!!!..........FANTASTIC POST DETERMINATOR!!

Yes, I think we have to truly`hunger` for sobriety, just as we thirsted for the alcohol.

What do you think of us all joining you in a dead-heat finish ?..............`cos I also want to win despite having a mere 5 AF days.

                Much love,

D - you remind me of some other fellow here who has successfully reached a substantial period of sobriety and continues to date. The two of you share simular enthusiasm and determination. I see something in your posts that remind me a lot of Neil (xtexan). I honestly think you are going to make it baby! Keep standing strong and proud!

Do I have a true winning mindset?

D - you are an amazing person and definitely set to win! And you are so right in your analogy - it IS a fight and the opponent is relentless - you can't go into this 'waiting' to become sober - you have got to actively work at it and attack !

When I read your current posts I can't help but wonder at how far you have come since your heartfelt cry for help when you went to rehab - that post stays with me as one of the most poignant I have read and it was literally only months ago. It is easy to keep looking forward at the struggle ahead and the continued fight and the potential relapses, but I think it is important to also look back at how far you have come and be proud
! You are at a very different place than back then and I so admire your achievements. I have absolutely no doubt that you will get to the place you want to with your drinking because you're right - you have the mindset - the determination - the deep down desire to reach a freedom from drink.

You're an inspiration, so keep armed, keep ready and dangerous and beat the heck out of it! Many :l
