How damaging is it to fall of the bandwagon once from AF?

I guess tonight is the most challenging from the start for me. Business is going terrible, gfriend is pestering incessantly about when I can go back (I'm in north america now, she's in australia), it's 11:15pm & I'm still working which is the norm. I haven't been golfing, skipped my workout, my back is aching because for the last 3 days I"ve been at the computer 10 hours plus.

To summarize things are BAD. I'm miserable.

I'd love to have a few shots and relax right now then get things on track again tomorrow. I've been thinking this increasingly each day since a couple days ago.

ANyway, gotta get back to work. Is it really damaging to do this one night?

    Sigh,

It is normal for your body to want to drink after a few days. The alcohol is leaving your system - and your body is craving some toxins big time on days 3 and 4. days 3 and 4 are usually the hardest days, but if you can get past them you are so much better off.

I would ask yourself - how much better will you feel in the morning if you have a few shots? will it make this situation any better? will you be able to stop at a few shots? generally, going for the alcohol does not really help us deal with unpleasant situations - they are still there and still unpleasant when we get back around to paying attention.

I would just think very carefully about consuming any alcohol. It really does not help - will it kill you? no - will you feel bad about it later? probably.

    Hugs - and good wishes,
    Pans

Your call sigh, although personally there's no way I'd give in to that little bastard - you know it's because you are pissed off and tired. Also, you are not looking after yourself, so one little drink seems like such a reward - you KNOW that it's not!
It always seems impossible until it's done....

could you hold off on the alcohol thought while you, maybe, take a nice warm bath to relax your muscles? (10 hours at a computer is torture!) Or put a hot pack on your neck and lie down for 10 mins? (or a coolpack if it's hot where you are LOL)
Just hand me the chocolate and.........I'll consider my position. My solicitor has advised me to say no more than that.

This is the time when your body is telling your brain that you NEED that drink, It WILL be OK, DON'T worry !!!

So don't listen to your body this time please, it is not telling you that you need something good, it is craving bad stuff ok?

Don't give in to it, it is already late - maybe you have gone to bed now, but I hope you didn't give in...
please let us know how you are, we wish you the best

I think it would be better if possible to wait a little longer.

Will a few shots ruin everything? no,you can get back on track.but you are delaying recovery.

It's really important to find ways to deal with discomfort that do not involve alcohol. And the longer you keep turning to alcohol, the longer it will take you to get over it.

Also, I don't know what your goals are. Mine is to moderate. I find that the habit of drinking at home alone to cope with things that bother you is probably the worst. when i eliminate that one and I am doing pretty well.

The truth is, and I am sure you know this in the back of your mind, a "few shots" won't be enough. That is the danger.

Hang in there and try to figure out something else non-destructive to deal with the stresses.

I know, easier said than done, which is why we are all here.

                Good luck,

Oh Sigh..........having been there, as all of us have, I can really identify with exactly how you`re feeling.

                  But!!!!!.............am 23 days AF now..........a place I thought I`d never be.

Tell you how I got to be at this point, shall I ?
Well, I thought I had loads of reasons for drinking and could forever find even more reasons.............I stopped drinking when I finally realized that I had no more reason than anyone else to drink............everyone has problems and stesses.........all part of life.

Truth is, I had no real reason to drink at all.
All I had was EXCUSES!!! EXCUSES!!! EXCUSES!!!...........same as excuses you`re making right now.

Your choice.........but if you`ve any sense, you will stop kidding yourself!!!

                  Be strong, my friend.

                  Much love,

Yes, it is damaging to do this for one night.

For a start, you might not stop at one night and if you read my thread about making a "boo boo", you will realise you can cause damage when you drink and it is a real nuisance trying to clean it up the next day.

So, in short, don't do it!
One day at a time.. Sometimes it's one minute or one second at a time.. Most important thing is to look ahead and don't look back!

                      Hello Sigh

I know I came in on this much too late to help you. I have been working late also. What I can tell you, is if you are in a hotel room it is sooooo easy, because who really knows? Been there, done that. But if you give in to a few nips, well, a few nips was never enough for me. And then the next day, I said I did it last night so why not today or tonight also. It's called a runaway train - at least if you are like me. For me, there is no such thing as one harmless drink. You may be very different than I am - I hope you are for your sake. It's always good to say no the first time - for me it gets harder every time after that.

I'm sending you my hopes for success. I really hope you keep things under control.
Rest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.

                        Hi Guys,

I read Flip's message and stayed AF. I guess it's been about 3 weeks now. Things are really up and down still but the good days make it worth it. Today is a good day.

I'm heading out now to do a bit of golfing in the rain.

                        Best 2 u,

Sigh, three weeks staying clean - that sounds fabulous. :goodjob:

You sound like my son - he plays golf no matter WHAT the weather! Have a good round. (If you don't, you can always blame it on the rain.:H )
