It seems we are no longer allowed to water our veggies or flowers now! We are being told to allow them to die, rather than use any water on them! It's apparently okay to water, using a bucket, your trees and shrubs but no flowers or veggies! A quote from the newspaper - "there is absolutely no point in planting anything if there is no water to keep them alive!.

I have a craplload of seedlings ready to go in my veggie patch and feel quite sad about the whole thing.

Isn't it funny how, it would be okay to fill my large spa corner bath up to the top with no penalties but am not allowed to water my veggies? I know, would it work if I filled up my bath and took the water out of that, with a bucket, for the veggie patch?

Is this immoral?

After further internal discussion with myself. I suppose it is immoral. If everyone did this, we would be in a sorry state..........

where are you? Each area has different restrictions. We've just come off Stage 3 which was pretty tough. You can run a pipe from the spa and siphon it out - but if you watered under the cover of darkness, who's to know which tap the water came from ?

About bloody time!! lol I was there last summer and all the lawns were green - even the verge! Having come from Canberra where the drought was really bad and we'd been on restrictions forever it was a real shock. Adelaide is the driest city we have!

Water-wise, we are in a sorry state. When I last checked I believe our national water reserves were at 30% of capacity. They've never recovered since the start of the drought some 5ish? years ago.

They can't stop you using grey water on your veggies - double bonus. Fresh veggies and you get really fit carting buckets of water from your bathroom and laundry.

The corner spa - well, that's one your conscience is going to have to wrestle with for a bit longer. I got rid of my dishwasher last year. Back to washing up in a bowl. Very Clampetts but the tomatoes seem to love the addition of bacon fat and those other little organic bits that float around in dishwater.

How will you go with filling the swimming pool? What are the current rules there?

I don't use the spa because I think it takes too long to fill and it's a waste of water - ie in and out in 5 minutes, doesn't really make it worthwhile. But my thinking was that I could, legally, fill the spa but not water the veggies? Doesn't make sense.

The swimming pool is full. I had to apply for a permit and got one no problem. Okay, guilty conscience again.

I already save the shower water that runs before the water heats up and use that to do stuff like soak handwash clothes, etc. Okay, Tawny, I am going to stop turning a blind eye so much to water wastage. My wrists are out, ready to be slapped. I could even take the odd bucket of water out of the pool if it comes to it. All waste water is now going on the veggies via bucket. What about things like dishwashing detergent, do you self-confessed, unashamed hippy-greenie-tree-hugging-artyoldfarts use such things? Does it not affect your veggies?
