My husband is bipolar and I always think I suffer more from it than he does. It's like I'm on the recieving end, not a nice place to be.

            PMS and drinking

            My heart,
I have the same thing as Jude....I just turned 50 so some months I have it twice and some months not at all. I take lots of L-glut during that time and it really helps.
If I ruin my body where will I live? :ranger

Hmmm, Does the L-Glut work right away or do you have to be on it for awhile? The Kudzu doesn't seem to do anything for me. Sometimes I wonder if my drinking is just me being lazy though. If that's the case no supplement will help me.

                PMS and drinking

                Just a few quick thoughts...

As we all know, it is stereotype for women to cram chocolate down their throats during PMS. And they do. But for alcoholic women, it is a proven fact that we get most of our sugar from wine and alcohol rather than sweets. (The article addressed sugar as an equally dangerous addiction, especially coupled with alcohol).

So the lowdown is this. Women (like me) who dont have a fetish for chocolate or sweets -- and never have, I tend to gravitate towards drinking too much when PMS. And, I have "heard" that our bodies do not tolerate alcohol nearly as well for about 10 days surrounding our periods. When I was drinking out of control, I could always pinpoint the worst days, things I did around my period. Apparently our tolerance level drops significantly, so maybe we are drinking MORE out of craving sugar in the form of wine or something, and then our tolerance is less... what a recipe for disaster!

What a beautiful disaster we are....

Read a book called "the wild Genie" by Alexander Pope. It's about teh "Power of Menstruation" and it explians a lot on this subject. Women do feel their addictions more, get dunk faster and have worse hangovers. There is a thread about a month ago regarding this, I gave sheshe the same advice. If you do suffer at that time of the month this book is A MUST READ!!!
