    question about the doc's

hey guys. so im starting next week af for a month. hopefully. im nervous and scared, and not wanting to do this, but at the same time looking forward to my depression being a lot better, and losing weight, ( 5-10 pounds) which is what ive tried to do but with drinking all the time its close to impossible. so im going to my doctor tuesday. i MUST have antabuse. i know that will work perfectly for me. I recently had to not drink for seven days being on another medication where u could nt o drink, and it worked great. my question is, is the doc goin to not want to give me a prescription for it? because antabuse makes you vomit like crazy, and possibly other more serious things if you drink. This is what it says could happen if you drink.
"Flushing, fast heartbeats, nausea, thirst, chest pain, vertigo, and low blood pressure may occur when alcohol is ingested during disulfiram therapy"

SO. do u think the doctor will give me a problem writing a prescription for it?

      question about the doc's

A few yrs ago i asked my Dr. for it-after failing on Campral & not knowing of any other meds to take for drinking. He didn't want to give it to me because he said it would not suit me since he knew my lifestyle & history. He warned me that there was too many things I would have to look out for & the way I am I was probably bound to not pay attention & ingest something by accident. He suggested Topa & i never heard of it. I googled it & found Rj's book. The rest is history.

Good luck-can't hurt to ask. It all depends on the the Dr. If you really want it & are sure it will help in your journey I would push the issue. If he is not willing to prescribe it to you then I would get another Dr. who was willing to help me.

Let us know how it goes!

thanks guys. well, i just decided to order it online anyway. i dont have insurance and i found a canadian pharmacy where it is cheap. i know they cant 100 percent be trusted, but whatevers. thanks for ur advice. ill let everyone on here know how it is. im sure it will be just like when i did the week af and i had no choice. however, u have to watch what u eat. even cold medicines or certain foods with the teeniest bit of alcohol may cause a reaction. let ya guys know!

I agree. If you think it is right for you, go for it 100%. Explain to your doctor why you want it-- make your case. I've looked into this and also think it would work well for me but I can't get it where I live. But I know many people who think it is great. You do have to be careful, though, but you know that. There is a long thread on this in the medications forum. Good luck.

So, I see our posts crossed "in the mail". But good for you.

I also heard that the effects of a tiny bit of alcohol (i.e in food or cosmetics) are exaggerated. That is to say, that most people can tolerate a little without major problems. Still, it's best to avoid it, but just that you don't get too paranoid.

I'm very interested to hear how this works.

hey beatle. i think your doing ok, not really needing it anyway right? but if you arent and want to get it, all over the internet are pharmacies that are legit. In the american pharmacys the cost would be higher than the canadian. some pharmacies i saw had them from 60 dollars and up in America.
