The Running of the Sheep at Boorowa's Irish Woolfest has been likened to "The Running of the Bulls" in Pamplona. Full wool merino sheep rampage down the main street of Boorowa leading the colourful Street Parade. Four working Australian kelpie sheepdogs bring the sheep back on track. These dogs leap on and off a four wheel motorbike keeping the sheep from disappearing into the sunset.
The second best thing about the festival is the "Blessing of the Fleece".
A sheep is shorn on the shearing shack beside the stage. The fleece is thrown on the stage and our three ecumenical ministers, representing the Catholic, Anglican and Uniting churches, join together to present a spiritual short service celebrating the fine wool of the region.
So, as you can see, I'm in for a fun weekend in the Australian bush, staying in a lovely heritage homestead for FREE!
I will, of course, be Alcohol FREE and riding my bike through town with my tough girly mates (one is over 60!) terrorising the locals!
See you all on Monday night! Attached files
