What do you like to do

I used to spend my beautiful weekends and afternoons drinking - I don't do that anymore - I haven't for quite a while. One of the things that keeps me from drinking again is all the wonderful things I can do instead. One of my favorite things is to ride my bike in the woods. I just posted some pictures in the Photo Gallery under Cool Places to See of some scenes from my bike ride. I hope you all look at them and then tell us what makes you happy, relaxed, and what you like to do most now that you have all this new wonderful sober time to enjoy life.

I'll start - I like to ride my bike in the woods. It gives me great peace, lets me get some exercise, and lets me experience the wonders of nature. And I love the smells in the woods. And the sounds. Much better than booze for me.

    Your turn........
Rest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.

What do you like to do

Everybody already knows that it's my motorbike that fills my weekends now, but I am also filling my days and nights with just "being".

Sometimes I sits and thinks, sometimes I just sits.

I think my problem is that I don't have any spiritual fulfilment like you do. I enjoy cooking, being with my family, going to the cinema, restaurant, etc, but those are not serene activities. There's no sense of inner calm or peace, and living in a city, I'm not near lochs and mountains and seas. Does anyone have any suggestions.

What do you like to do

I live in a town but we have some lovely woodland near me and now, especially at this time of year I love to go walking there, just to watch the squirrels getting ready for winter, the different colours of the leaves as they change for autumn.. Like Flip, sometimes I just sits and thinks, I love reading, I do a lot of meditation, but I think the best part of the day for me is waking up each morning with a clear head, no hangover and no regrets just an enthusiasm to start another new day..

What do you like to do

I don't spend enough time doing those 'spiritual' things either, Cooking.... I'm in a small town but only 9 miles from the sea...my favourite 6 mile sandy beach....?? (Thanks Mags for reminding me!) I think I stopped doing those things because I used to do them when I WAS pissed! They remind me of sloppy, 'soft-round-the-edges times...how daft of me to let that memory stop me! Past. History. They're still beautiful. I have to walk/bus (if there is one) till next July but why am I letting that stop me?....

because actually one 'pleasure' I have been enjoying is actually being able to get down to and keep going at all the mountains (different sort!) of paperwork that overwhelms me if I'm not vigilant! I am really chuffed about that.... achievement! It never got dented before!

Plus my choir, drumming, dancing - things I never went out and did in the evenings because..............................(fill in the obvious dots!!)

Cooking - armchair travel on the TV/web until you can get to it for real? Google Perranporth Beach and come with me to mine?! :l

            Thanks Mags - great thread.

            Love FMF xx

What do you like to do

              great thread-

i agree that waking up feeling proud of no booze the day before is the best. i love walking in a park about 20 minutes from me and seeing the rose garden and the lake with geese and ducks! quack quack

also love being on the treadmill and in the dry heat sauna sweating out all the poisons i drank. i seem to either be destroying my life or enhancing it. nothing much in between. there is the ying/yang of life again.

What do you like to do

I work my arse off, trying to turn my place into a park.

I often wonder why. And then I realise .... this is what I do. It's just what I do. I'm good at it. It gives me a reason to believe.

Until I can sit with someone who appreciates the concept of the "companionable silence' - I'll cruise along in solo mode. It works for me. And I'll have you know ... I'm just gorgeous beyond belief .... in my dreams

What do you like to do

Anything to do with wild mountainous places!

FMF - great idea - allowing others here to cyber-travel to the places that are important to us.

A photographer friend of mine has a website of photos of the places we visit together in our mountainous pursuits - so you CAN come with me to the places I go!

If you come across people in these photos - It is probably me!

LOL - even in these photos I am inscrutable!

Only ever shot in the distance - or with cold weather gear on, covering my face etc!

No - you won't get a good look at me I'm afraid!
