I don't mind a harsh review, but I was a bit offended that the reader felt my book's primary agenda was to promote Topamax or a pharmaceutical company. Anyone who understands the program is fully aware that our focus is multi-faceted and that medication--if adopted--is only one therapeutic element of an integrative approach.
Amazon reviews are really important to any author--and critical for a small publishing company like ours. We're proud of the feedback and ranking we've earned on Amazon US, where sales continue to grow. It's one of the best ways to share our program and encourage new membership here on the forum because we include the web address in the book.
I'd like to ask a favor of any of you who live in the UK and have read the book. Would you be willing to provide an honest review? You'll find the [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0976247909/102-7624791-5116949?v=glance&n=283155]US Amazon listing here[/ame] and [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Way-Out-Remarkable-Overcoming-Innovative/dp/0976247909/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/203-2037368-2573508?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194360882&sr=8-1]the UK one here[/ame]. (I'm not sure if feedback is limited to UK citizens--of course I would welcome reviews from all members.)
The existing UK feedback actually reminds me of how far we?ve come because the reviewer?s thinking was much more pervasive when I first published My Way Out two years ago. You simply didn?t treat alcohol addiction as you did any other medical condition, so meds rarely entered the equation. I believe we?re making great strides. We can finally begin to eliminate the stigma and shame associated with alcohol dependence and treat it objectively. We can offer patients nutrition, medicine, behavioral strategies, dietary modifications, exercise--and support in a venue in which they are comfortable. Every day we learn more about how neurotransmitters in the brain lead to addictive behavior, and what we can do to interrupt that process. We can also adopt many alternative therapies and customize an approach to find something that really works. It?s an exciting time for change. I?m not sure that British doctor gets it, but I know many of you do.
Thanks in advance to those who are willing to help. I believe it will bring new readers to the book, to this site, and to a new path of sobriety. J
