      Favorite Christmas Carols??

Well, Accountable, lucky you, having lovely lovable grandmamas. Some of us have old relatives who are simply old pains-in-the-tail who refuse to give up the ghost, no matter how many rampant killer reindeer we aim at them. The mere fact of getting ancient and wrinkled does not automatically make a person dear and "special". Sometimes it just makes them an older, bitchier version of the young bitchy person they were formerly. Oh God how many times was I shoved into the Holy Sainted Presence of my maternal grandmother, and told to "hug her neck and give her sugar." This instruction was given by our maid/cook, not my mother, by the way. I remember being about 4 when I wrenched out of Reen's grasp and shouted, "I WON'T kiss that old thing! I hate her! She whipped me!" I ran off and hid under a bed, and never did kiss the old harridan before she died (at some obscenely advanced age.) She didn't deserve it. Do I harbor any sentimental regrets? HELL no. She was mean as a snake.

I am so glad to know I am not the only blubberer in church during good music. Silent Night with candles? Forget it. One time I had to step outside from Christmas Eve mass because I was crying uncontrollably during that song. I am sure people thought I was a loon.

I like 'in the bleak midwinter' by Christina Rosetti. I like the words ''in the bleak midwinter frosty wind made moan, earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone. Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow, in the bleak midwinter, long ago. It sounds so desolate and moving. My girls still make me sing them to sleep with 'little donkey'

Oh Come Oh Come Emanuel. It is not often sung, but I love it. I love Silent Night, and Little Drummer Boy too-especially the version by Jars of Clay.
