    A question about blacking out

you can buy tryptophan over the counter, also from MWO. It is fairly inexpensive. 5-HTP is another form of tryptophan, supposedly better because it is already partly broken down (works faster?). Most people take it at night as it has a sedating effect. It has been used as a sleeping aid for many years. It gives me weird dreams so I don't do that.
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

      A question about blacking out

I'm familiar with what you describe. Rang a friend last night to arrange a group theatre booking. Had completely sane and normal conversation with her, couldn't remember one important aspect of the conversation this morning. New it was because I'd been drinking. What surprised me however was the use of the word 'blackout" as when I was having the conversation I was present. I feel that rather than having had a blackout, I have an alcohol-induced memory loss. Is that not different? Or am I splitting hairs?

        A question about blacking out

For me in the US, I think my old insurance knocked off about $20 off Campral, not much. No one at Blue Cross said a word about it.

Unfortunately, when my husband's job ended we waited too long to get back on a health plan. (3 months instead of the required 60 days or something.) Well, when we applied at Blue Cross, like a dummy, I told them I sought counseling for alcohol abuse in 2006. This was after the death of both my parents, from alcoholism. Needless to say they denied me. Unfortunately I had no idea they can do that.

Then, they denied my husband for a ganglion cyst (little bone growth) on his wrist. They said he didn't have it treated. It's really stupid because they tend to go away if he smashes it and he and HIS doctor decided it wasn't a problem. Thanks Blue Cross. Michael Moore was 100% right in his movie 'Sicko'.

Hey, where do we tell horror stories about drinking? I've got some about my parent's drinking that may make you think twice about taking another drink.

          And sleeplessness......yet another issue
most meats have tryptophan. so does milk, that's why it makes you a little sleepy.
if you have a high protein diet, whey protein is good as well. you tend to get enough triptophan, but I also read that you really need the B vitamins to process triptophan.

            A question about blacking out

Ratana, I just had to tell you I think your post has helped me a ton. I always seemed to blackout, no matter what, and after reading what you wrote I never want to drink again! It scared the h__ll out of me. I am 30 days a/f and hope to never touch the stuff again. I've often wondered what I was doing to my brain when I blackout...now I have an idea. I'd be a big dummy if I ever try to drink again. Anyways...thanks so much. Good luck with Grandma.
