Highest Success rate in the world???

I guess I know where I'm going if and when... Alcohol Rehabilitation Center - Passages Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in Malibu, California

Sounds like a spa experience to boot.......Mmmmmmm, I do love Cali

Looks delicious. And politically correct- the cleaning staff LOVE their jobs!
(I wonder what kind of salary they make-- and what the price is to stay there.)

Then, for the strong at heart there is the Schick Shadel Hospital:

They use aversion therapy. From what I glean, if your body can handle it, they make you throw up whenever you think about drinking.

      Yikes!!

The price is approximately $65,700.00 US Dollars for a month, not that I've been looking into it or anything :H .....probably more for me cause I'd go to Rodeo Drive or figure...."Hey, if I'm going to be sober (in the land of the plastic surgeons) I might as well have a face lift whilst detoxing" LMFAO!!!

It sounds like a lot of money but if you are well off and have a drinking problem it is worth it, without a doubt.

You really can't put a price on sobriety :h

          MyHeart,

          Yes, sobriety is priceless.

Not sure about the face lift while detoxing, though.

I did laugh about the "cleaning part" since Bradford does make you do all that. Mopped floors, made beds, blah blah. However, a lot of their clientele are young people hooked on opiates. I think that very structured routine is good for them. Lots of them leave and go to a halfway house to keep up the routine. They are the ones that seem to make it in the long run.

One of the girl's in my group who had a really bad attitude the whole time is no longer with us. They found her body two days after she left rehab. 21 years old and gone.

          Made me really sad,

I guess on some level I equate my beloved Pinot Grigio with "Good Times"...a reward or priveledge. I think if I ever went to a place that made me do "grunge" work or puke or was difficult in any way when I got back to my real life the memory would be so foregin or unpleasant to me I would not relate and go right back to drinking.

Now if I went to a luxurious place that pampered me and detoxed me and gave me fruit juice spritzers, I would find that easier to maintain and carry on in my normal , everdyday life when I got back home.

In other words.....Present sobriety to me as luxurious and wonderful and I'm more likely to accept it.......does that make any sense?

sobriety is priceless, yes, but evidently it is more easily attainable for the wealthy-- for a price.

As for me, I'm certainly not poor, but entirely unable to afford the "Passages" way. Guess I'll keep plugging away with MWO.

(Didn't see a price on Schick Shadel-- but their approach did seem sensible to me.)

yes drenched, that makes sense, and I think that is kind of what Schick Shadel is about-- taking away the pleasure of alcohol, associate it with everything bad, so instead, being sober feels like being pampered.

Sobriety=Luxury/Pampering....that is a nice thought to lock into one's head!

A good friend of mine was just "Markman Acted"....thrown into rehab against her will for 43 days.

This was supposed to be a decent place and yet she felt it to be awful so she associates sobriety with this gross/awful place. I never want to go through that.

Beatle, it means being "commited" to a facility against your will. It has to be done by an immediate family member. "Baker Act" is being commited to a facility when you are deemed a physical threat to yourself or others. That the police or licensed therapist can do.
Sometimes I wonder...."Why is that frisbee getting bigger?"...and then it hits me.

mmm the alcoholism and addiction book seems quite interesting to me. paying 65.000 for a rehab is out of control. imagine going there and spending your free time logging on to MWO.
That's probably what I would end up doing.

I didn't click and read the link (sorry, I'm a lazy cuss), but who is reporting Passages as the most successful?

Just curious, because what with Lindsay Lohan and others recently in the news for multiple rehab stints, I thought many of the CA plush rehab centers were getting a poor rep, Passages included. But maybe I'm confusing it with Promises, or some other similar-sounding place.

Will try to read the My Heart provided when I get a sec. I'm curious to see what it says.

Not that I have the 65k to drop on it, mind you, no matter how compelling the stats!

Brit and Lindsay were in Promises, not Passages.
I don't think we can do anything like Markman Act in California. Rehab has to be court-ordered.
My brother did a $7000 28-day private program in January. He was great... for two months, then fell hard. He is now two months into a FREE six-month program run by a local Catholic charity. It is an organic dairy farm. He gets up at 3:30 and herds cows. he quit cigs, runs four miles a day and is so far doing great. I hope to god he stays sober and clean forever, because he will surely die if he does not.
And you may ask yourself, "What is that beautiful house?" And you may ask yourself, "Where does that highway go?" And you may ask yourself,"Am I right?...Am I wrong?" And you may tell yourself..."MY GOD!...WHAT HAVE I DONE?"
