__ A Waupaca County judge imposed the maximum three years in prison for a man convicted of driving drunk ten times. Judge Raymond Huber also added 18 months to Scott Hein's sentence because Hein violated supervision orders from his previous convictions. Judge Huber says he's fearful Hein will kill someone if he drives drunk again. The judge noted Hein would often drink 17 or 18 beers at one sitting. The 37-year-old Ogdensburg man was pulled over in June and had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit. He had been out of prison three months after completing a sentence for a previous conviction.

A guy in my state was sentenced to the max in prison for his 10th DUI!!! I don't get why it's only 3 years. Here's the article.

Where I live they take your license away for a year on the first conviction. I think they take it away forever on the third. And the legal limit is 0.0.Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

I don't know the difference between DUI or DWI Beatle, nor the ins and outs of state law,
however, where I am from New Zealand, you wouldn't get past your second DUI either, they would throw the book at you. Taken VERY seriously over there.
Hope you're well.

Why is this?
Yeah, that is just plain STOOOPID, Marcie. There was an article here about some girl who has had her licence taken away 14 times and she is only 26? I had to read it twice! Not only that, she has been in several motor vehicle accidents! None were related to alcohol, but glamourized how bad of a driver she is? She still is out there on the road.
Some stuff I read just blows my mind.
Here, they take your license away for a year, period if you get caught drinking and driving. If it is more than your first offense, it is likely you will serve jail time. Not to mention the hefty fines you have to pay even on the first conviction. I heard on the radio on my way to work yesterday, that ICBC (our provincial insurance agency) is going to up the insurance rates for everyone who has had a driving infraction over the last 10 years. Speeding tickets, included. For those who have been charged with impaireds, this could result in your insurance rates going up thousands a year.
Although, I am one of these STOOOPID people who was charged with DUI back in 2004, I think it is GREAT they are getting tougher and tougher here.

Yea AFM, why are people like that girl and the guy I read about even allowed to drive ever! He just got out of jail a few months before he did it again. I'm sure he will drive drunk after he's out this time as well. It's only a matter of time before he hurts or kills someone.
Beatle, DUI and DWI are the same thing. Driving under the influence and driving while intoxicated. I think they use DUI more around here.Marcie

Why is this?
DUI laws just got a lot tougher in Arizona. Here is a chart: Arizona DUI Penalty Chart
MINIMUM of 10 days in jail and ignition interlock device MANDATORY w/1st offense w/lowest level of BAC (.08-.14). But, let's face it, if I ever got a DUI, it would probably be in the extreme level (.15-.20+) and I'd be looking at MINIMUM 30 days in jail and a lot worse.
Personally, I think the stricter DUI laws are good. It has made everyone more aware of what they are doing and my mom's group is now being more proactive about thinking ahead and coming up w/designated drivers for our nights out.
BTW, I think the minimum is 45 days in jail for the lowest BAC DUI (.08) if you have a minor in the car w/you. They want to send the message that it is never OK to drink ANYTHING when you are driving your kids around. I also think this is great. I've never been one to drink AT ALL when driving my kids because I know I have an alcohol problem and don't entirely trust myself to stop at one. So, when I'm driving my kids, its easier to just say no.

I better clarify that I don't drink and drive NOW. I used to and that's what made me realize I had a problem w/alcohol, brought me to MWO, and also made me realize my problem was serious enough that I should see my doctor about it. I never got a DUI, but if you have to check your garage to see if you're car is there because you don't remember driving home, well that's pretty sure sign of a problem. Anyway, just wanted to clarify that so I don't get a speech on how drunk driving is bad. I KNOW!!!
And, BTW, even though I've had a lapse on the program lately, I'm proud to say that I never went back to the dangerous behavior I had before of driving while under the influence. My friends and I have been doing the designated driver thing.
