how long and how much do/did you drink...
None taken, Trail.
We all thought the same thing about ourselves at one time.
I remember one time at the airport years ago observing a drunk and how it seemed so ridiculous to me that he was wandering around drunk at the airport.
Now, I find myself doing that all the time.
I am very happy you are already concerned and want to do something before it gets that bad. A lot of damage is done by the time you get to where I am. Spirtually, physically, mentally and untold damage to our loved ones.

Trail,
I have been drinking since I was 16.
I now can and do often drink two bottles of wine a night. That is 10 drinks.
I blackout everytime I drink, now.
I am quitting, yet again, today.
I am going to beat this starting today.

I am always wary Trail, we have lots of nutters come here, as you can imagine.
I wonder, as I said earlier, if you are trying to determine if you have a problem or not. What do you think? It always seems impossible until it's done....

Trail, I have been drinking since I was about 18 years old but I started like you. When I started working regularly and had my own money to spend, co-workers and I would always hit happy hour on Friday. No big deal. I only drank 1 or 2 nights out of the week well into my 30's but when I drank I usually got drunk. Then at 36 it became a regular night thing. My boyfriend and I would get home from work and have a "cocktail" while watching the sunset on the porch and then wine with dinner. Before long I was having 2 cocktails and a couple of glasses of wine and now it is out of control. When I was in my 20's as you are now, I was "a pretty party girl" and I was considered "cute" when I had too much to drink. Now that I am 53 it is no longer considered "cute" and I'm no longer "a party girl" just a drunk. I would never in a million years have imagined getting to this point when I was in my 20's. You state you will/would never let yourself get to that level but I would wager if you asked any person on this site if they would have thought they would be here you would find a very large percentage who had that exact same thought. Good luck in whatever you decide but if you are concerned about your drinking now, you would be wise to do something about it now.

My opinion is if you think you have an alcohol problem, you have an alcohol problem.
It absolutely does not matter how much you drink.
I personally never drank more than 5 glasses of wine a night at the absolute most, which is far less than most people here or maybe more than some, I dont care, it was a problem for me because of the circumstances surrounding it. I am only 33, and did the typical college drinking thing but it got to an unacceptable level when I was drinking at home alone by myself.
If I go back to social drinking, I think that will lead me back down the path of drinking at home again, I dont want to go there. I am 16 days AF, and so much happier. My husband hardly drinks even when he is in a social setting, and we have NO alcohol in the house, which makes it easier for me.
You have made a great first step at coming here, good luck!!AF since 7/5/2009

its not like it should be something that will be a huge problem. I wont drink for 4 or 5 days with no cravings to do so. Its just that one night when we have nothing to do. Ya know friends ask to go out for a drink. I have no problem going to a bar and ordering a non alcohic drink. I have done it plenty of times before. I will problary just stay away from bars for now though. Its just like pot. Nothing to do, lets go bake. I dropped pot and havent touched it in 6 months. I will keep you guys updated. and thanks to let me know where i couldve headed.

trail, no offense taken, but I never thought I would get to the point of drunkeness I was at. Then I never thought I would be able to stop. I thought I would die in my addiction; but thanks to all the great people here, this program, and my effort at home, I am AF now for almost 9 months. Not drinking is the greatest thing I have done for myself and everything I am involved in. Stopping while it is easy is good. Hang in there.

how long and how much do/did you drink...
I started my drinking career on the last day of classes of high school when I was 18. In college I got into a little drinking related trouble and the Dean of the school insisted I go to an alcohol assessment. I was 21 at that time and the conselor told me, "If you're not already an alcoholic you're practicing really hard to become one." I wish I would have taken that to heart and quit then.
I had 3 months sober earlier in the year. Most recently my drinking was everyday. I would drink 12-16 (12 to 16 ounce) lite beers a day, during the work week. On days off work I would easily drink a case or more a day. When I went out I would drink beer and Jack Daniels shots, but the bar I hang out a "shot" is like 2-3 ounces poured in a rocks glass not a shot glass.
I have a friend that is a policeman and he asked me to volunteer one time to get drunk with a group of other volunteers so they could help train the new police recuits to conduct field sobriety tests. I was blowing .125 on the breath analyzer and all of the police cadets thought I was the sober one in the group because I passed all the field sobriety tests.
