I think the whole lent stint actually works out at 46 days!!! Sorry!! However its day one today and my intentions are good. I need strength!

Good Morning to Lenten abstainers,

i survived Ash Wednesday day one despite friend and hubby sitting drinking wine!!Went to chuch and decided to try and do this cheerfully not with the feeling of being denied anything.

Need to plan this eve now "the bewitching" hours are after 9 for me.

I want to do this with you guys.
This was in my mail box this morning and I thought I would share it with you.
I also have a book..."God's Chossen Fast" by Arthur Wallis that I'm going to read on the subject so I can better understand the "why" of giving something up.
I "fasted" chocolate kisses several years ago and their "hold" on me is gone......Not me BUT GOD broke the power I had let them have over me.

Someday He Will Be Taken Away

the bridegroom are not sad while he is with them. They cannot
fast (be sad) while the bridegroom is still there. But the
time will come when the bridegroom will leave them. The

KEY THOUGHT:
The reason Jesus' disciples didn't fast (see the previous verses) was
involved with the timing of his ministry, not their piety. They would
fast when he was taken from them -- the first hint that Jesus will face
a painful ending to his life. While he was present with them
physically, however, they would not fast. Instead, they would enjoy his
presence and celebrate his love.

Father, help me know the proper time for each of my spiritual
observances -- feasting and fasting, rejoicing and weeping, comforting
or being comforted, praising or repenting contritely. This I ask in
Jesus' name. Amen.

Hello
I'm on my 3rd day today. Started the day before ash wednesday because I was very sick from a 3 day binge. The second day, ash wednesday, I spent meditating on why giving up AL for lent was important to me at this point in time. Never did it before, not for the entire lenten time. This time is the time because it will change my physical and spiritual health.

I grew up catholic, but at this point in my life the religion I grow up observing is more of a spiritual journey. Just like many catholics (not all) I'm a cafeteria catholic; take and practice what is good for my spirit and leave behind what doesn't benefit my journey. My best to everyone:hiya:

I, too, hoped to begin day one with Lent. But, instead enjoyed a glass of wine which led to two with a sandwich in the local pub after a snow shoe jaunt. Had just completed a weeks worth of topa, hypno CD's, vitamin supps, the MWO book, prayers, goals, and moderation. Why can't I do the AF bit? The will power escapes me, and the anxiety is torture. How did you do day one?

Well here we are on day 2 of Lent..so far so good.

Cant get complacent though got to get through the weekend and the temptations that brings to us.

Hope we get 40 people to do 40 days..wow what would be an achievement and hopefully the money saved gets to go to a good cause too.

Lets not worry about tomorrow ..i,m enjoying this evening first!!

I AM! Drank a little around noon on Ash Wednesday. Thought about it, instead of buying anything else I went to evening Mass and have been AF since. I am giving it up for Lent.

Hi hope

what a great name ..thats what we have to live by HOPE .Lent can be a time of repentance , contrition and conversion as we plod on with these 40 days.

Of course we will get tempted and i could fancy a wine right now!!

Temptation is part and parcel of all of us..Being tempted isnt the problem ..its the giving in to temptation that leads me to a place i dont want to be at present.


Just rad a saying from Oscar Wild.."I can resist everything except temptation"!!!

i have to trust in God and live in hope that this Lent will be a truly spritual time.

i dont want to mope i want to do this joyfully...........well at list not being vile and moody!!

Phew... so far so good girls. I got paid today. Could have easily as I've done in the past deduct money from my paycheck when I deposit it; instead I deposited the entire check in the bank.
