    Day 31 and Beyond: Hello, I'm a non-drinker

    Det,

Yes, Yes, my thoughts exactly. I used to love going to social events...hanging around. But now, without drinking, well, I find it downright boring and I get very restless to move on and do something else.

      Det,

PS What types of things do you enjoy now that you are not drinking? What have you replaced the AL with?

        Day 31 and Beyond: Hello, I'm a non-drinker

Momof3, I've been enjoying some hobbies that I had neglected badly during my al abuse years.

        -shooting
        -martial arts
        -bicycle riding
-going to book stores and drinking coffee and reading up on new things
-I signed up for some "one on one" training at the mac store (for learning new things on computers and software)
-going to the movies and remembering the movie

Thanks for letting me know. I'm always curious to know once people do once they stop drinking. It also gives me some ideas.

            Day 31 and Beyond: Hello, I'm a non-drinker

Hi everyone - just a quick post and I'm off to a busy day.

MO3 -- Once I quit drinking I set an outrageous goal for myself as far as a new "hobby". I decided that I would learn to ride a motercycle. For many people that wouldn't be that big of a deal ... but for me it was huge. I'll tell that story someday. So in May I took lessons, and bought a Harley! It's very symbolic to me - and every time I ride I think about how much my life has changed since last January. It's a "mountain top" experience for me. LVT and her running is another example! So stretch your goals - set out to do something outrageous for yourself! Something that the "old" you wouldn't even think of doing!!

As far as landmark Education - It has "changed my mind" in what is possible in my life. I literally walked out the door of the advanced class with a "new way to be". I learned how in-authentic my life had become, and that my desire is to be a truly authentic person in every way. I learned I had been living out a "story" of my past and every action in my life had been tied to that. The Landmark Forum teaches you to "see" why you have been the way you have been. At the Advanced course I designed a new life for myself. In a nutshell ... "Who I am in the possibility of being at peace. The Act I am giving up is .. "Don't hurt me"!! And that is who I am!!"

Det - I also love going to movies now and not dozing off!!!

Kate - I like the idea of "Racing for Sobriety" -- maybe the $$ could go to research! You could start a foundation!

LVT - did the fog lift this morning for the bike ride? Go Girl Go! :yougo: We'll be your cheering section as you cross the finish line! What a great goal! Also - I understand what you are saying about your SIL - and your relationships at large. If your goal is moding with them - maybe pick an accountability partner. Or you can just post back here and report your success! We will help you achieve whatever your goals are!

Wip, WW and everyone else :l 's to your day!

Liv, I really like the idea of stretching goals/choosing an outrageous goal. As you mentioned, it is a very symbolic way of leaving an old life behind and starting a new. I've always wanted to complete a marathon...actually started to train for one but I was still drinking. Landmark sounds like it was a life altering experience. I have heard others who have said the same. BTW, I used to have a recurring dream of riding a Harley.

LVT--I missed something. What are you doing?

                Be well everyone

                        Day 31 and Beyond: Hello, I'm a non-drinker

I've got a short break and thought I'd better bring this thread back up to date ... literally!

I had the awesome opportunity to spend some time with Kate in her beautiful State!! She hooked me up with some business, so I jumped on the chance to spend some time with her! Now ... I have known and loved this dear friend on this site and on the phone for the past 9 months -- but getting to spend actual time with her was a delight! She is a elegant woman, and her beauty shines inside and out. (don't blush Kate!) Her DH is madly in love with her, and they have the greatest relationship. It was awesome to spend time with them. In a word -- Our dear Kate is authentic. She cares about people more than anyone I have met in a long time. She really is a giver. I hope everyone on this site is given the opportunity to visit with her at some point in their MWO journey. When she speaks, it is from the head and heart 100% of the time. We would all gain from taking what she has to share in this walk. I love her for the way she has always been here for me on this way out. Kate ..... :l

I just wanted to share --- hope you are all having a wonderful day and lets get this thread back up on page one!!!! :h
