    Zoloft/sertraline.

Just got new antidepressant from doc.........got Sertraline.....a generic brand of Zoloft, starting off at 50 mg. Would like to know your experiences of the drug, i.e. the good, the bad and hopefully not the ugly.:H

    Thanks in advance.

    Zoloft/sertraline.

I don't react well to SSRIs, but Zoloft was the one that worked best for me. It did make me drink more and paranoid, but then again, I am diagnosed bipolar, so that's another story.

I know several people who have had very good experiences with Zoloft. So I would give it a try-- hope it works for you!

        Zoloft/sertraline.

I was on 50 mg of sertraline for about 2 years. A GP prescribed it, instead of a p-doc.. It made me drink more, and made me feel sluggish and lazy, or maybe that was just the increased alcohol intake. But it was the exact same drug in the exact same dosage. When I went to a p-doc because I wasn't getting any better and said that I wasn't getting any better, he said that 5o mg was too low a dosage to do any good, and put me on 200 mg Welbutrin, in spite of the seizure risk associated with that drug combined with alcohol, and he was full aware of my booze consumption levels at the time. The welbutrin made me feel better about myself enough to start fighting the booze, instead of resigning myself to a lifetime of it, as I see it. So here I am today, on day 6 AF once again, and I've got more sober days than drunk days for this month! That's my take on 50 mg's of zoloft, but everyone is different. It might work for you. Give it a few weeks, but if it isn't working, get off it and try something else. Maybe the fact that I was drinking while I was on it might have something to do with it's ineffectiveness, no?

Star: started on 50 mg. , this was about 10 years ago, I was in really rough shape. That dose stabilized me so I wasn't crying all the time, etc., but I still felt very blah. Then the dose was kicked to 100 and I felt like a new person. It was like a wonder drug for me, I swear.

It is very hard to get off of....for me..
I have heard it can cause you to let your guard down and drink more. I didn't have a drinking excess problem until I started taking it. Been off and then back on over ten years. I'd go with the Welbutrin if you have a choice. Just my thoughts ...be very careful. It also causes weight gain. Yuck...sorry no good news from me on this one.

It made me drink more and very hyper, up all night. I had to go off of it.

                    Zoloft/sertraline.

SSRI's can make people who never drank crave it....it's a weird side effect but it only happens to some people.

aaaaargh, is Seroxat an SSRI? I have been on this for a few years, find it very hard to come off as I get a kind of spasm in my head/brain as withdrawel effect. Scared, very scared regarding the making you want to drink...... more info please.

Hmmmm, nope.......my current doc probably isn`t aware of my alcohol problem, and due to all the recent legal ballyhoo.......it suited me not to bring it to her attention.

So, I see most of you don`t like this AD, huh? :H Well, since I still have weight to lose, I don`t want to gain any through this drug, nor do I wish it to cause a reawakening of alcohol cravings.

Makes for a big problem then, cos these drugs cost the NHS money, so don`t think doc would be overly delighted if I prance into the surgery and say........"Please may I have wellbutrin instead, cos my MOW pals ain`t fans of zoloft". Oh dearie me........what am I to do??

I think they all suck in some form or another.

                          BUT....

Wellbutrin, I have heard NOTHING bad about them from anyone on them. They also help you quit smoking. BIL took them for that and he hasn't had a ciggie in over 2 years. So kill the depression and the urge to puff with a prescrip of Wellbutrin is what I say.

Plus you don't want that 'urge' of drinking to come back.

Wellbutrin can cause seizures, I've always been afraid to take it and I've taken many different antidepressants.
