Doc gave me 2 mths supply too.........you think she was trying to tell me something??? :H

Am still on for quitting the ciggies with you on Mon, AFM, but if I could get a double whammy out of Wellbutrin as an AD and a deterrent to puff, well........I would be one happy bunny. Gotta figure out what to say to doc......could say I`ve tried the zoloft and they don`t agree with me in some way, but wouldn`t feel right lying.(not that I`ve never lied about anything in my life!! :H )

Great stuff! I have been practicing the not smoking thing to work my way up for Monday. I am down to 5 a day now. (I don't smoke at work - but chew the sheight out of nicorettes! :H ).

I think all AD's have side effects - they effect everyone differently. I simply think that Wellbutrin is pretty mild.... but that is my opinion SOLELY based upon other's opinions.

I have been on so darn many - but never Welly or Zoloft. Apparently I have a disorder that consists of taking my meds 3 times a day! So none of the SSRI's faired well with me.

Do what you have to do. It is a pain to find out what works for you, but it may be worth it in the long run.

Hi Star: again, Zoloft worked beautifully for me. There are some differences in the SSRIs now that there are so many, and I think Wellbutrin is slightly different. BUT I once tried to get Wellbutrin when a therapist had recommended it and the doc wouldn't give it to me, as I had confessed to drinking a bit. She was very concerned about seizures. sorry for all the confusing info.

I'm on 100mgs. of the stuff. It calms me down,,,,,so to each thier own. The only side effect that I have from it is that I have a tendency to bark at the moon & chace after cars. ha! No not really...I'ld probably do that any way. LOL.....IAD

I tried Zoloft about 8 years ago for treatment of depression. I'm usually not sensitive to medication, but it gave me nausea, extreme anxiety, and cold sweats. After 3 days with no decrease in side effects, I threw it away. Years later I tried Lexapro, which gave me no side effects and worked extremely well, so if Sertraline doesn't help there are many other similar drugs you can try. Good luck.

Lexapro is my favorite of the SSRI's. Unfortunately it gave me some trouble sleeping, mild weight gain, and sexual side effects. I am very sensitive to meds though. Lexapro rocks and is my #2 favorite antidepressant.

Star, you are probably going completely crazy now with all this conflicting information. I suggest you try the zoloft -- it affects different people different ways and although it made me crazy and caused me to drink more (remember, I was already drinking a lot when I started), I know at least two people who feel zoloft saved their lifes and there are a couple here who also have a lot good to say about it.

Zoloft is supposed to be milder and have less side effects than most SSRIs and I'm guessing that if it works for you, you will lose weight since depression usually causes you to gain weight. I would give the zoloft three weeks, and see what happens. It actually lifted my spirits from the first day (which is not usual) and made me feel much better but it made me too hyper (the manic side of bipolar), which is why I drank more (to calm myself down).

It was awful for me. I copped really really bad side effects - you name them I got them. Worst was the night horrors - beyond nightmares these things were like real, totally freaked the hell out of me. Shakes, sweats, extreme dizzyness.... I was just really unlucky.

Hope they are successful for you, there are so many side effects and some contradict each other, then again some people dont experience any at all.

I was on zoloft for 1 or 2 months. I didn't know what sexual side effects meant until then. I could not reach orgasm. this had nothing to do with my husband (if you know what I mean...sorry guys but sometime a girl just know what works best) So I decided what was most important to me and didn't refill script. My anxiety/depression was temporary, induced by outside situations and even though I always think I am just on the verge of depression I'm feeling much better socially as I've stopped drinking.

It was always my understanding that zoloft was more of an anti-anxiety med. It was made as a "safer" version of xanax which is very addictive. I am always hesitant of a drug like those two that you take continuously instead of as needed.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all. It's just that I've been seeing psychiatrists since 1972 and have picked up a thing or two from them. And of course, these are just my opinions.

It's funny you should ask about the SSRI's because it's been all over the news this week that anti-depressants don't work unless you are severely depressed. The study had half the people taking a sugar pill and their depression seemed to lessen. The mind is a powerful thing when you think you are taking something to help it. Your drugs like effexor are very hard to get off of and are very addictive. That is why you can have such severe side effects when you miss a dose. A few weeks ago there was a college shooting and we found out the shooter quit taking his prozac and he went on this shooting rampage. Some people get psychotic when they quit taking these drugs cold turkey. SSRI's are not a magic pill. We should feel some sadness in our lives. I myself am trying to control mild depression with Sam-e and other supplements and a good diet and exercise.
I took zoloft several years ago and I ended up drinking more. Couldn't figure that one out.

I heard that close to 50% of the adult population are on SSRI's. If this is the case there should be a lot more smiling faces out there shouldn't there?

I think we live such fast paced lives these days and need to learn how to take care of ourselves so we don't get so frazzled.

Let us know what you do Star! Sorry if I rambled on but I was thinking of going back on an anti-depressant again but after seeing this on the news this week I opted not too.
