      Antabuse question

I was probably being overly cautious and should of been clear that that is what I did and how I went about it. I normally steer clear of offering medical advise for the obvious and clear reason which I have just shown!!. I'm normally quite 'up on the mark' on clearly stating fact or personal experience and particularly in this folder where the best advise is to talk to someone with a medical background!!

      Sorry for any confusion Lucy

        Antabuse question

Well Lucy, I'm guessing that you'll have to wait a few days before the mail arrives anyway. I think my doctor told me to wait 5. Better safe than sorry.

Luv, I'm beyond 30 days now, so not much to say on that thread. Heehee. Just kidding. I see some people are starting some 60, 90, etc. threads too. I just post here and there now. I find it hard now to find new things to type about. My life is pretty damn boring, and that is fine by me.
        where does this go?

Lucy, do hot baths for 20 minutes with 1 cup each of baking soda and epsom salts. It will help draw toxins from your system. If you belong to a gym go to the sauna or steam room. And water, water, water. I can't believe all the stuff I know and don't do it. I'm a bigger idiot than my little stray doggie.

            Antabuse question

I am on 250mg - take it first thing in the morning. It was prescribed through my GP. It takes all of the mental frustration out of the equation. You know you simply cannot drink - so you don't.

I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to kick this thing to the curb.

I haven't had any side effects from it. I started taking it just over 2 weeks ago after a real nasty slip.

            All the best to you.

                Antabuse question

I ordered some online about 4 years ago, started it just after day 7 of a 10 day Home Detox. I had been told it's difficult in my area to get Dr's to prescribe it, you have to prove you are AF and then they watch you take it at a local clinic (well about 4 miles away), being a busy person without a car and in full-time employ I was not prepared to mess around, because I knew sooner or later I would get that terrible craving again.

I am afraid after day 4 I was so ill I collapsed in the Dr's waiting room after arranging to see him because of how ill I felt. I was aching from head to toe, temperature, fever and red rash on skin. The Dr said I must have either had some alcohol - I really hadn't for 7 days before taking it or have bought something dodgy from the internet. I had been still using perfume with alcohol in it, but had watched everything else including sauces, vinegar etc.

He didn't seem prepared to delve any deeper so from that day I have only been able to surmise I must be allergic to it.......I spoke to the Alcohol Nurse who said that reactions from perfume on the skin were extremely rare, but no-one would give me any answers and just sent me home telling me off for using a drug purchased on the net.

I wish I could give it another go, but it's so difficult to get - I have been told my partner would have to supervise it for them to consider a prescription and I need to show I can be AF. Chicken and Egg.

                      Antabuse question

I have taken this in the past - and it's worked ONLY with another kind of "therapy" involved. Every time I've wanted to get it, the doctor did a liver check.....this makes me think that liver functions before Antabuse may be important to know?

Also, I'm afraid of buying drugs online...anyone have experience or knowledge about this?

                        Antabuse question

Thank you all for the helpful responses-

I am afraid to take something I have ordered on line. I have never done this before. But I don't feel I can go to my doc. and I have seriously felt like I have exausted all other options..so I don't know what else to do.

Tried Campral, Topamax, the Suppliments, been to AA, bleh, bleh. And I am someone who really WANTS to get off this treadmill. And in other areas of my life, I can be SOOO committed...But not here.

                        So, here I go.

Scared, hopeful, the whole gamit of feelings on this one.

                        With love

                        Beth

                          Antabuse question

Hi everyone!! These have been wonderfully enlightening and hopeful responses.

                          I so appreciate it.

I talked to my counselor today about Antabuse and she was impressed with my desire to truly quit. She considers is Draconian but if that is what it takes....

However, what she did do is refer me to a psychiatrist. She wants to make sure that I deal with my anxiety issues as well as drinking. i.e. I take Antabuse and have an anxiety attack, what then?? She asked me to wait on the Antabuse until I talk to him.

I did start on Chantix today (for smoking), though, and talked to a really nice older doctor who just told me to go to AA and it will eventually "click."

Either it will "click" or I will die. Hope the click comes first....

                          Love,
                          Cindi

                            Antabuse question

Beth, if you ordered from River Pharmacy you have nothing to worry about. I have had great service and product from them. I would, however, reiterate what others have said here; that you really read up on Antabuse and how to take it. It is not a drug to be messing around with. I will be anxious to hear how your journey goes on it.

I am going to do this, because I feel I am at a brick wall

                              Nothing else has worked.

I am worried....big time... I cant seem to get even a couple days in, and if I don't have that...can I even start on the med....but I don't know what else to do...

                              So here I am....

                                Antabuse question

Beth, why can't you ask your GP about this? He's seen it all. He is bound by a code of ethics and confidentiality. Nobody else will hear about this. Do you think he will go home to his wife and say, "wow, you'll never believe what Beth asked me today?" Really, I don't think the doc will even think about it. He'll be on to his next patient minutes after you're out the door. I would rather see you get it from the doctor. You'll know then you are getting the right stuff. Of course, Lushy said that River Pharmacy was legit. I just figured it would be good for your doc to know so you can get the right test done to make sure your innards stay healthy. Of course, you could always ask the doctor to set up tests without saying why you want them. Good Luck, and way to keep fighting. :goodjob:
                                where does this go?
