That's fantastic, Green! Must feel like a weight has been lifted. Each time you tell someone a weight will be lifted until you are free. You don't have to tell everyone, don't get me wrong, you will know who, but keeping secrets from those you love is a weight - it's a lot of work. So good for you...
Face your deficiencies and acknowledge them, but do not let them master you. Let them teach you patience, sweetness, insight.

Hi Greenbean: Kudos to you for telling your sister about your secret. I came clean with my husband, dad, and brother well over a year ago. It's nice having a support system and sharing with them that I am not weak and that my body is allergic to alcohol. Once I drink, I can't stop, and the alcohol alters the person who I truly am. You don't have to battle this disease alone. I feel it was a great idea for you to share your problem with your sister, and I commend you for it!

I will see my dad today for his birthday. He's in a nursing home from a stroke. I am his shining star. I cannot bear to tell him. Not because of shame (well there is that) , but I just don't see anything productive in it. He would just lay in bed and worry about me. I can't do that to him. So I shall pretend until I don't have to, which I hope is soon.

Green not everybody needs to know. If it will bring more harm than good, don't tell someone. You don't need the additional stress it brings you. Then you worry about them worrying and feel guilty, then drink. I agree, no need to tell him this.

              Greenbean tells sister!

Good Greenbean! I wish I had a sister I liked/trusted so much. Mine is awful! She married a Brit with a horrible attitude, became a flaming liberal, goes in for all kinds of psychic weirdness, and...well, I'd confide in the checker at the grocery store before I would tell Sisterjane one single intimate fact about myself. We've always kind of hated each other, and it's okay as she lives 6 timezones away. Brotherjane is only one state away, and we get along fine, but he'd be embarrassed to receive any soul-baring confessions. Parents both dead, so no real reason to be in each others' faces, except for the children, who are cousins. Once a year at Christmas is plenty.

Totally irrelevant to your thread! Sorry. Glad you feel better. But I'd worry that the more confession, the more exposure, and the more public any future slips.
