    Why did/do you drink??

    Jane Jane,

    How sad.

    I am sorrry.

I am one of those who went through gastric bypass to be "acceptable" and here I am, a freaking drunk!! Oh, that is SOOOOO MUCH BETTER.

    LOL

I am a drunk and still trying to figure out how to "make me perfect." Damn...

No, DAMN!! I am so instillled with the "wisdom" of the doctor and he WARNED ME NEVER TO DRINK MORE THAN TWO DRINKS A DAY."

Damn. I sure wish I had listened...
My mom wants me to go back to "him" and just does not get it.
    I am a drunk, today"
    totally.

Sorry but that is where I am,
    Love,
    Cindi

Hey Cindi! "Two drinks a day"??? Dang, why didn't they just say so? I missed that particular doctor's appointment!

            Why did/do you drink??

            hmmm...good question

I can think of lots of good excuses why I drink. Not sure there is a reason, except maybe habit, social norm, addiction--I love beer!? Started drinking at 14--lots of kids did. Did some pretty stupid things back then. (30 + years ago) Of course college was just the progression of things, the drinking age was 19 then, boy did we have fun! Graduated, got a job, made new friends that loved to party, married an alcoholic, divorced him after 4 years after going to plenty of Al-Anon and dry out meetings. Met my current husband who also loves his beer, had a couple of kids and that's when the guilt started about the excessive drinking. The kids are at an age now where I need to be a good role model, and I've done too much of that drinking and driving thing. I've considered rehab--but then everyone would know I had a problem!! Anyway, I decided to quit smoking once and for all. I only smoke when I drink--so guess what--the beer has to go too for awhile anyway. I was looking for books, hypnotherapy, etc on the Internet when I found the MWO book. Learn to drink in moderation---that could work. So the rest as they say, is history. I also lost a friend last week from acute liver failure, probably as a result of alcohol abuse--time for a reality check. I haven't overdone it since her funeral which was 1 week ago today. I haven't had anything since Saturday night. Hey, thanks for letting me ramble!

              Why did/do you drink??

Life dealt me more than I could handle.....too many problems & not enough love, compassion and understanding. One day I just couldn't deal anymore and began drinking, this was about 6 years ago at age 40.

BTW, I have truly enjoyed reading everyone's responses to this thread.

                    Why did/do you drink??

                    To escape . . .
                    - the loss of loved ones (my sob story starts with the death of my father when I was 5, etc., etc.)
                    - intimacy (staying home and drinking alone is one way of avoiding this)
                    - lonliness (living alone and drinking alone guarantees this)
                    - the past, present and future
In essence, reality. Certainly is not the life I want to live anymore!
