    Inspiration Motivation in Music

I thought I should start a thread for people to post youtube links for songs that have inspired and helped them get through the tough times getting AF and kept them motivated to stick with their plan what ever it may be. Maybe it will give you something to put on your ipod for any 'weak' moments to make you strong. (If this has already been done somewhere else.. then feel free to tell me and I will find the thread and post it there.)

With much appreciation to RJ and the team and everyone on these boards who put so much of themselves into our community, here is my first contribution.

This is an Aussie band, very young when they started out so still very young. Singer was under 18 when they got famous. Try to imagine what fame is like when you are a lead singer in a Rock'n'Roll band and not even 18 years old yet. This song was written after getting through the first few years.. he is in his early 20s now and one of my heroes.

I've always found this song to be so uplifting and it really does give me boost when I'm thinking "the world is such a shitty place!!" I always relate to the line "I just found God where he always was" as my own spiritual awakening as well; meaning my love of nature and all things green and wondeful!! I've printed the lyrics below and the video nowhere near does the song justice on Youtube.

I dreamed myself from the sultry plains
to the old green square back in old Maybole
Rode the wind up to Stornoway
paused at the peak, pacified my soul
Caught the bus at the faery fort
made it to the mansion on the Boyne
See I come around to the ancient ways
I took a tip from the buddha boy

    I just found god
    I just found god
I just found god where he always was

We came down from the hill of dreams
Bernadette, mother earth and you and me
through Carraroe, down the wildwood side
blinding our eyes in the shallow seas
Drank fire with the King of the Blues,
plugged in to the medicine way
Took a long last look at Crazy Horse
push now for a golden age

    I just found god
    I just found god
I just found god where he always was

I found myself on the roof of the world
just waiting for to get my wings
Strange angel in the changing light
    said "Brother, you forgot something!"
My heart beat from the inside out
so lucky just to be alive!
Can you tell what I'm talking about?
any day now the Sun's gonna rise

    I just found god
    I just found god
I just found god where he always was
I just found god where he always was

There is a green hill far away
I'm going back there one fine day

    Love and Happiness
    Hippie

Glad you like Rip! I should point out that it is an Aussie/Scot perspective coming through here.. at least I think so?? Hippie lives in Liverpool but I think his roots are elsewhere? I have a few scottish roots also.

In honour of the FickleHippie alliance I will share this cracker of a filmclip where ACDC perform on the back of a flatbed truck driving through Melbourne in the early 70s. Fantastic deulling guitar & bagpipes. Very thrilling! (though not about abstinence). I will be back shortly with further inspiration!

last night I had the strangest dream
                I ever dreamed before
I dreamt the world had all agreed
to put an end to war

                I dreamt I saw a mighty room
and that room was filled with men
and the papers they were signing said
                we'll never fight again

And when the papers were all signed
                and a zillion copies made
they all joined hands and bowed their heads
                and grateful prayers were prayed

The people in the streets below
                were dancing round and round
and guns and swords and uniforms
                were scatterd to the ground

Last night I had the strangest dream........
Rather die standing, than live on my knees, begging Please..... No More.......

OK here is the band that changed my life completely. I was listening to a lot of soul music and going to night clubs before I heard this band. I was also smoking a lot of dope at the time as well. My friend had a tape of the album "Hall of the Mountain Grill" which he played in a car we were in going down to London and this just blew me away completely. I stopped going to clubs, grew my hair long and moved straight to London where the music scene was bigger and better. I got into the underground scene with squatters and New-Age Travelers and started going to free-festivals.

"...........Tonight Mathew.........I'm going to be..................HAWKWIND". (stars in their eyes!!lol)

I searched hi and low for a decent version of PSYCHEDELIC WARLORDS but couldn't find one fitting enough to show the impact that tune had on me so above is a link to give you an idea of what the band was like live....

The next two links were sent to me by fickle and so all credit to her for sharing these with me.

The first is by a band called Frou Frou and although the melodies are a less melancholic than The Cocteau Twins I think there is a big influence in there somewhere. Also the name I think is from a Cocteau Twins tune or part anyway. Maybe you could clear that up fickle?!!

[ame= ]YouTube - It's good to be in love, Frou Frou[/ame]

And the next one is from Imogen Heap who is the lead singer in Frou Frou. I used to write a lot of my songs using this technique of making loops then adding and adding until I had something solid to work with. I'd then break it all down again and then work towards that crescendo be it the choruses of the song or the main big beat in a dance tune. I self taught myself this using a keyboard called the KORG M1 Workstation that had it's own built in sequencer. It's very effective as you will see how Imogen Heap uses it on her vocals to sing this tune accapella style using loops and samples of her voice that she does live. Not hard to do if you know what you are doing but still very effective.

Wow that Hawkwind was quite a scene Hippie! I managed to find the lyrics to Psychedelic Warlords... ah to be young and taking on the world!

                              We're the psychedelic warlords
Playing spaced out rock and roll
Hang on to your heads now
Because we were born to go

                              We're sick of politicians
                              harassment and laws
All we do is get screwed up
                              By other people's flaws

You think you know the answers
But we don't tell no lies
We can take you any way
                              Through seven different highs

The world's turned upside down now
                              There's nothing else to do
                              Except live in concrete jungles
That just block up the view

                              We're the psychedelic warlords
                              And that ain't no joke
Travel with us to lands far out
                              And just disappear in smoke

You have a lot of experience and technical skill with music Hippie! You make it sound so easy and I think Imogen is so clever!! I realise now she is using that technique in writing quite a few of her songs.. and I am still in awe! I have trouble even getting a song onto my ipod!

This is no reflection on anything above, this is just how I am feeling today.. it sums me up perfectly:
