    Inspiration Motivation in Music

    Hi LVT,

Don't worry, I also am technologically challenged from time to time.. hope this makes sense:
you just copy and paste the link from the little window where it says "http:/www.youtube.com" and whatever follows that. If you paste the entire link it acts like an 'address'. Keyboard shortcut is to highlight the address then hold down "Ctrl" and "C" at the same time. When you paste into your post you hold down "Ctrl" and "V". You can go advanced and preview your post to see if it worked.

Nice to see all you guys joining in! I think I may be close to maxing out my download limit so I might go quiet for a while.. but I am still following and happy to find new things to inspire me!! I am still enjoying Waterboys Glastonbury Song.

Love Jack Black.. you know he even scored a place on my teenage daughter's wall because he is so cooool! Is fun to see him up with all the pretty boys. I had not seen these filmclips.. ahahah great!

And Michael Franti.. I have heard one or two of these but I never knew who he was.. Thank You SD!! I'm definitely puttin some of them on my ipod.

OK, here is something I think of as modern classical (but you know I'm a genre dag and have NO idea).. they are very young, from Iceland singing in Icelandic - we have heaps of Sigur Ros.. the first is my favourite and the second is my 7yo daughter's fave. Hljomalind I think might translate as 'home disappearance'. First time I heard this I had no idea what it was about but found it very uplifting. Staralfur translates as 'staring elf' and makes us feel like we are out under the cold night sky it is so very evocative and full of twinkly stars:

Hmmm.. seems that was not too popular! Well this is 'my' thread so I will persevere.. I've never been one to follow the crowd.. my life is always too complicated for me to spare the time to figure out what all that is about.

These are the things that give me joy: that is about all I can handle right now. Here is one for me (bit vaudeville.. can u handle it?):

Dresden Dolls - Coin operated boy - [ame= ]YouTube - The Dresden Dolls 'Coin-Operated Boy' music video[/ame]
Dresden Dolls - my alcoholic friends [ame= ]YouTube - The Dresden Dolls - My Alcoholic Friends[/ame]

Here is one for the kids:

      [ame= ]YouTube - Boats and Birds[/ame]

And yuk.. i do not like the way this has come out.. it was so much better when the link took you to the youtube site so you could search more about the band! I was a good marketing tool for the beloved bands. But!

So! Onwards and forwards? or F..Off?

Sorry mates, have been awol for a bit.

Here are some songs I find very inspirational, hope somebody gets some oomph from them and enjoys. They are oldies but goodies. I have tried to find the original vids. Some of these start off a little slow at the beginning but it's worth the wait (turn it up!!!):

This is a great heart-starter and the original vid - Brand New Day:
          [ame= ]YouTube - Alex lLloyd - Brand New Day[/ame]

If you liked that here is more - Coming home:
          [ame= ]YouTube - Alex Lloyd - Coming Home[/ame]

          Lucky Star:
          [ame= ]YouTube - Alex Lloyd - Lucky Star[/ame]

And for last.. just because I am a great Alex Lloyd fan... if you don't like it by now then you won't bother, but for those who do.. go buy an album.. almost every song he's written is just as heartfelt & moving.. and not to mention.. motivating! First albums most spectacular in my opinion - first was
          'Black the sun'

          Green: [ame= ]YouTube - Alex Lloyd Green[/ame]

                  Morning fickle

As you say those Alex Green tunes are really good hear warming pop tunes. Coming Home was my favourite. I also liked the Parisian style of the verses in Lucky Star it gave it a bit of edge on the last sections of the 2nd verses.

Not heard much Patti Smith to be honest apart from a track called "Horses" (I think). An old hippie mate of mine had a girlfriend who would always put this on when we went round for drinks and spliffs and a good drumming session (Not a full kit mind due). She had lots of drums and tablas from different parts of the world (mainly Turkey and Egypt). Bit of an old punk rocker is our Patti though I do believe!!

Right seen as you where in DJ mode I thought I'd change the pace a bit too and post a few of my fav tunes..........

Unfortunately this first one has no video to it as the scene from the movie Matrix Reloaded where this tune appears contains some nudity that some members may find 'offensive'. If you want to take a peek though on youtube which I hope you will then in 'Related Videos' click on 'Zion Dance'. This scene just totally captures the whole essence of what 'raves' meant to me. I don't like indoor raves at fancy clubs and shit like that. Cannot stand all this happy hardcore and scouse house etc. either. I've been to many outdoor parties/raves in woods and YES even in caves at Hawkestone Park where they filmed scenes for a children's adaptation of "The Lion, The Witch and the Wadrobe" for the BBC. So definitely not your average week-end club raver, it meant more to me than that.

As far as live dance acts goes you cannot beat Faithless....

Have seen Faithless on numerous occasions but the best live show I've seen was at The WOMAD festival in Reading about 7/8 years ago.

Great song by 10000 maniacs about drinking

                          [ame= ]YouTube - Natalie Merchant and 10,000 Maniacs - Don't Talk[/ame]

                          Dont talk, I will listen.
Dont talk, you keep your distance
For Id rather hear some truth tonight than entertain your lies,
                          So take you poison silently.
Let me be. let me close my eyes.

                          Dont talk, Ill believe it.
Dont talk, listen to me instead,
I know that if you think of it, both long enough and hard
The drink you drown your troubles in is the trouble youre in now.

Talk talk talk about it, if you talk as if you care
But when your talk is over tilt that bottle in the air,
Tossing back more than your share.

Dont talk, I can guess it.
Dont talk, well now your restless
And you need somewhere to put the blame for how you feel inside.
Youll look for a close and easy mark and youll see me as fair game.

Talk talk talk about it, talk as if you care
But when your talk is over tilt that bottle in the air
Tossing back more than your share.
You talk talk talk about it, you talk as if you care.
Im marking every word and can tell this time for sure,
Your talk is the finest I have heard.

So dont talk, let me go on dreaming.
How your eyes they glow so fiercely I can tell your inspired
By the name you chose for me. now what was it? o, never mind it.
We will talk talk talk about this when your head is clear.
Ill discuss this in the morning, but until then you may talk but I wont hear.

Found my way back here somehow
Knew you'd have to let me go
Told you once I told you so

                            Take me down

                            Maybe I may bend
But I know where I'm not going
                            I will not be broken
                            I will not be broken
                            I will not be...

Someone other than who I am
I will fight to make my stand
Cause what is livin' if I can't live free
What is freedom if I can't be me

                            Take me down

                            I will not be...

I won't let you near it
I will let my spirit fly
                            Fly
                            High
                            Oh take me down

Cuckoo I love 10,000 maniacs too. I think both Natalie Merchant and Tracy Thorn have amazing vocals.

'In my tribe' is one amazing album.

Here's one of my fav. tunes with Tracy Thorn in.

                                "Protection"

                                [Tracy Thorn]

This girl I know needs some shelter
She don't believe anyone can help her
She's doing so much harm, doing so much damage
But you don't want to get involved
You tell her she can manage
And you can't change the way she feels
But you could put your arms around her

I know you want to live yourself
                                But could you forgive yourself
If you left her just the way
                                You found her

I stand in front of you
I'll take the force of the blow
                                Protection

I stand in front of you
I'll take the force of the blow
                                Protection

                                You're a boy and i'm a girl
But you know you can lean on me
And I don't have no fear
I'll take on any man here
Who says that's not the way it should be

I stand in front of you
I'll take the force of the blow
                                Protection

I stand in front of you
I'll take the force of the blow
                                Protection

                                She's a girl and you're a boy
Sometimes you look so small, look so small
You've got a baby of your own
When your baby's gone, she'll be the one
To catch you when you fall

I stand in front of you
I'll take the force of the blow

And I've leaned on me for years
Now you can lean on me
And that's more than love, that's the way it should be
Now I can't change the way you feel
But I can put my arms around you
That's just part of the deal
                                That's the way I feel
I'll put my arms around you

I stand in front of you
I'll take the force of the blow
                                Protection

I stand in front of you
I'll take the force of the blow
                                Protection

                                You're a boy and i'm a girl [x4]

[ame= ]YouTube - All About Eve - Farewell Mr. Sorrow[/ame]

Six o'clock, all the closing shops
And the rainbows on the pavements
                                Of a sleepy town.
October leaves were wept from the trees
In tears of grief and strange relief
                                And sympathy.... all for me.
                                Do you remember walking out
                                The day it rained forever
                                And you were wondering
If I held dreams of wedding rings
                                Well, farewell Mr. Sorrow
                                Tomorrow is my own.

I believe we made a vow
Beside the fireside but I'm sure I lied
                                When I promised you
That I would never want sing
                                Along with anything
But for the strings of your guitar
                                Here you are...

So this is how a Judas kisses
                                Well, this is my kiss.

Another great tune by the maniacs
