    Inspiration Motivation in Music

That is one of my all-time favourites. Here's another.

    Now I've been happy lately...

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Beatle, love them. I have his album Tea for the Tillerman which has a lot of these songs on it. What a great singer.

            Yusuf (Cat Stevens)

I first started to listening to Cat Stevens when I became more aware of the folk scene through listening to the likes of early Clannad, Sandy Denny, Fairport Convention, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel and others. There is a great concert of Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) on youtube that is broken into 10 minute segments which is just simply wonderful to listen too. It's very recent as well. He gotten a lot of stick because of his beliefs and his change of faith over the years. I think his music speaks for itself though.

A few more of my favourite folkies

This is Clannad with Bono from U2 I posted this one has this has a lot of meaning behind it for me

            [ame= ]YouTube - Rare Bono & Clannad In a lifetime[/ame]

            Clannad

            Hard to tell
            Or recognize a sign
            To see me through
            A warning sign

            First the thunder
            Then the storm
            Torn asunder
            In the storm
            (Bono

            Satisfied
If the past it will not lie
            The future, you and I
            Get blown away)

In a lifetime In a lifetime

And as the rain it falls
            Heavy in my heart
            Believe the light in you
            Faded and worn
            Torn asunder in the storm
            (Bono
            Begin again
            As the storm breaks through
So the light shines in you
            Without color
            Torn asunder in the storm

Unless the sound has faded from
            your soul
            Unless it disappears)

            First the thunder
            Then the storm
            Torn asunder
            In the storm
            (Bono:
            Selfish storm
            Hold on the inside
            One life
            In the storm)

            In a lifetime
            In a lifetime
            In a lifetime
            In a lifetime

Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention. This is my all time fav. 'folk' song. Unfortunately this has no video but the song stands well enough on it's own without one. There are a few live versions on youtube but nothing compares to this original version with Sandy Denny on lead vocals. Seen as there is no video here are the lyrics so you can sing along.....lol

A holiday, a holiday, and the first one of the year
Lord Donald's wife came into the church, the gospel for to hear
And when the meeting it was done, she cast her eyes about
And there she saw little Matty Groves, walking in the crowd
"Come home with me, little Matty Groves, come home with me tonight
Come home with me, little Matty Groves, and sleep with me till light"
"Oh, I can't come home, I won't come home and sleep with you tonight
By the rings on your fingers I can tell you are my master's wife"
"But if I am Lord Donald's wife, Lord Donald's not at home
He is out in the far cornfields bringing the yearlings home"

And a servant who was standing by and hearing what was said
He swore Lord Donald he would know before the sun would set
And in his hurry to carry the news, he bent his breast and ran
And when he came to the broad millstream, he took off his shoes and he swam

Little Matty Groves, he lay down and took a little sleep
When he awoke, Lord Donald was standing at his feet
Saying "How do you like my feather bed and how do you like my sheets
How do you like my lady who lies in your arms asleep?"
"Oh, well I like your feather bed and well I like your sheets
But better I like your lady gay who lies in my arms asleep"
"Well, get up, get up," Lord Donald cried, "get up as quick as you can
It'll never be said in fair England that I slew a naked man"
"Oh, I can't get up, I won't get up, I can't get up for my life
For you have two long beaten swords and I not a pocket knife"
"Well it's true I have two beaten swords and they cost me deep in the purse
But you will have the better of them and I will have the worse
And you will strike the very first blow and strike it like a man
I will strike the very next blow and I'll kill you if I can"

So Matty struck the very first blow and he hurt Lord Donald sore
Lord Donald struck the very next blow and Matty struck no more
And then Lord Donald took his wife and he sat her on his knee
Saying "Who do you like the best of us, Matty Groves or me?"
And then up spoke his own dear wife, never heard to speak so free
"I'd rather a kiss from dead Matty's lips than you or your finery"

Lord Donald he jumped up and loudly he did bawl
He struck his wife right through the heart and pinned her against the wall
"A grave, a grave," Lord Donald cried, "to put these lovers in
But bury my lady at the top for she was of noble kin

            Love and Happiness
            Hippie

Hippie, I have a Clannad cd will have to check and see which one it is and if this tune is on it. I don't think so because I don't think it is some of their earlier stuff. I'm at work so will need to listen to all these when I get home tonight.

Wow this thread is moving fast!

I am replying to buckle & all a few posts back regarding Tim Buckley. Man! I had never actually seen Tim Buckley and the resemblance is unbelievable.

Being the youngest I was exposed to older sibling's music and I will always remember Tim Buckley for 'get on top' as it practically curled my hair with embarassment as a child  Wow the 60's! Can anyone hear mention of cool green frog dance near the end or am I having a flashback??

These two clips are just photo montage but the recordings are live as far as I can tell. They both show off his amazing voice. Apologies to anyone who thinks me too cheeky posting this first one:

Have managed to find these live clips of Jeff Buckley and am impressed by the karmic resemblance of the themes.. as these guys did not know each other much.

Well Jeff is one of the loves of my life.. nuff said:

there are bazillions of vids i could post so shall stop.. shall finish with another oldie.. which used to cheer me up when i was about 7 or 8 yr old coming home from school I could hear this blasting from the house a block away...

This song has always "spoken" to me.

I thought it was the best performance at Woodstock.

When I was in Puerto Rico I became familiar with this popular singer, Luis Miguel. I have no real clue what he is saying but when I listen to his voice I simply melt. I think he has one of the most passionate voices. The first one has some gorgeous scenic photos and the second one is him singing with an orchestra. It literally gives me goosebumps.
