    The Financial End Of Booze

I have a company car, with fuel, insurance, maintenance, tires, registration - etc. I figured out that I could float the new car payment and insurance on what I will save on being AF. Boss said if I wanted to get my own he would still take care of the fuel, tires, maintenance, etc. Giving it serious thought.

    Quite a plus!

It is all in how you look at it. Here's a little retirement information for you: If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Delta Air Lines stock one year ago you would have $49.00 left. With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00. With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left. But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all of the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, you would have had $214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. It's called the 401-Keg.

joking aside I have to agree totally with the financial stress drinking causes. I would surpass paying bills even so I could go out to the pub with the money. "Oh we'll double up next week" became the norm to me until eventually I just stopped paying the bills. I'm still paying for it know even though I'm not with my partner anymore. I could of quite easily just of 'not bothered' and left my ex to fend for herself after I moved out but I know most of our financial worries came from my drinking. Part of the healing process for me is facing up to my responsibilities and so paying off these past debts, no matter how much financial strain they still put on me, is actually helping me psychologically get through this. I may not like it but I know it is the right thing to do so gives me peace of mind.

it also isn't just the cost of the booze, but the fact that you may forget to balance your checkbook, pay your bills etc. and end up paying late fees and overdraft charges.

it was easier to ignore that in the States as you can buy AL at the grocery store so the AL $$ was hidden in the grocery bill! now that we're in Canada and one has to go to the liquor store its hard to not notice those purchases on our banking statement ... we did the math a few months ago and it was disgusting! also add $10 a pop for a pack of smokes ...

what I also found disturbing is the multiple trips to the liquor store in one evening ... we are always in denial and don't buy a lot at once ... then end up going out for "one more bottle" (of wine). yes, a little drunk driving too though at the time we always think we're fine.:tsk:

another disturbing thing is having to switch off who goes to avoid the embarassment of making 2 trips to the LS in one evening ... hoping that maybe they've switched clerks!!!

          yuck.:argh:

Well, Hippie, I hate to tell you.....but I worked for MCI before worldcom and had a nice little nest egg with my MCI stock, 401K and retirement. Then the Worldcom Merger happened!! Bernie the Bastard (Bernie Ebbers) stole it all!!! So, Nope! not funny............I blew the money on AL for years!!! That was definitely my fault! But Bernie (Worldcom) stole the rest!......Geez, I am happy that he is in Prison!!!

I'm spending my new extra cash on gardening! My hubby (who controls his drinking) is all in favor or this. Great motivation to continue abstention or moderation (your choice)!
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

Just imagine the amount of $$ spent on DUI's, court fees & fines!
                And that's if you're lucky!

Then there's classes, "blow & go" devices etc... missing work...higher insurance...
All kinds of things that come into your life...(again, if you're lucky...)
and are still around to deal with it.

i spent around 50 to 70 pounds a week, it varied it could go more than that if i went back to the shop for more.

i now use some of the money on horse riding for me and daughter and going to gym.

im so surprised that i could afford it as im on benefits.

Wanted to bump this thread up again.. because it's really an eye-opener .....

I figure in the last week of AF, I've saved about $50 in beer and the money I've saved from smoking less because I'm not drinking...

                    :wow:

Now, mind you, I drank the cheapest beer you can buy...
P.S. You can't love if you don't love yourself...

Oh Yes!!! When in AL classes for my DUI in 2000 or so.. we had to figure what the DUI cost us.. in the obvious but also in lost work/productivity etc...

My number was about $10k.... from the DUI alone..
