    I made the call

I have an appt today at 2:00 for an assessment - I'm going to rehab!! I just can't live like this anymore. I am scared to death and have no idea what I am going to tell my employer, but I have to do this, I don't have any other choice, I am killing myself.

I'm so proud of you hon. I know it's scary, but you are doing the right thing. I went to a facility in....I can't remember wasn't Seattle but some town near there. What was hard wasn't the doing w/o alcohol. It was the boredom. But all and all it wasn't an awful experience. I'm thinking of ya hon!:goodjob::l

Congratulations, Pooh.... let us know how you're doing.

Yea, what are you going to tell your boss? I'm sure that's part of the reason why others don't go into rehab...

          How long is the rehab?

Congrats Pooh!!! You are going to feel soooo much better afterwards. It's nothing to be afraid of....look foward to feeling so much better about your life. It will happen, okay?

Your employer can't do anything about you going to rehab. It's discrimination if they do. But you should tell them right away, especially if you want to come back. You'd be surprised how understanding people are. They are probably already aware of your problem and will be happy you are going to get help.

Good luck! I can't wait til you get back and tell us all about it!

Congrats, Poohbear, on taking this big step. Let us know the details. Noelle is right; your employer holding this against you is discrimination. Alcoholism is considered an illness.

I'm wishing you all the best as you start this endeavor.

Is alcoholism legally considered an illness? I hope so.

What form of discrimination is it?

Thanks, Noelle... I'm just wondering do the courts consider it to be an illness...

Go Pooh!! :wd: I know that was hard. There is a medical leave of absence clause in employnent situations. You can call the Employment Security Commission in your state or possibly the Dapartment of Labor for info. Not sure which, but know for a fact from a relative. If I recall correctly, it's 3 months.

don't think so otherwise people wouldn't have troubles gettting proper treatment for it.

                          maybe I am wrong.

                              Poohbear,

                              1. All you have to tell your employer is that you are going to the hospital. Period.
                              2. The rehab facility will handle dealing with your company's HR, which, btw, is not conveyed to your managers or bosses!!!
                              3. Most importantly, you are taking care of yourself. :l:l I am very proud and happy for you. I pray it is a good facility and they give you great treatment.

You are right. If we don't stop drinking, we will kill ourselves. You are doing the right thing, Pooh. I am so glad you are taking this very courageous step.

                              Love,
                              Cindi
