One thing that is universal among parents is.. they love their children. I'll bet your dad didn't mean to hurt you.. he probably thought he was doing what was best (in his eyes).

Try to think of him looking down now and being proud of you...

and know you probably know the value of people beyond what a person does or doesn't do.. or what they do for a living..
P.S. You can't love if you don't love yourself...

As you wander through life, sister/brother, whatever be your goal, keep your eye upon the donut, and not upon the hole.

        Jay42,
My dad passed away in 96, He fought in WWII, Korean War & Nam. He's inturned @ Arlington National Cemetary. I did my little time in the Army....then the next 35 yrs. with Dept of Defence . I will never measure up to my father ! He's Unit durning the Korean War has a Monument in Arlington & he's buried about 100 yards away from it . My father could be a hard man @ times, spent most of his life in the ARMY. But he was always fair...... ( just thoughts brought back by your thread. IAD )

Lost my dad when I was 21. He was a drinker and a heavy smoker. I have many issues there and I have never grieved. He was a good father but a diciplinarian. I grew up feeling I always came second best to my older sister and still feel that way. You are doing well Jay, it was a difficult day for you.

My Dad's always been such a hard ass... We have a LOVE/hate relationship...
I never felt like I could "get it right" either....

I think Dad's are proud,... they just don't know how to show it...

Like others have said,...it will be OK.
              Know he loves you...:l

                Jay,

As a mom (mum), I can tell you that both of my kids think that the other is my favorite.

Not because of me, because of their own internal problems.

I am quite sure you dad loved you as much as your brother and probably worried a lot about you.

Just let him know everyday that you are okay, and when you reunite in heaven someday, you will be able to love without the concern of these earthly issues. Pure love.

                :l

ps. Waiting on the next poem.

With my dad thier were no favorites.....wait, except his little girl ! My brother & myself caught most of the hell and we found ways to make our sister pay. Oh, how the poop hit the fan when dad found out what we were doing ! That's life I can't blame pops for anything, I screwed up my own life. IAD !

Jay, I'm sure your dad is looking down on you now and thinking you're doing a great job. I always hope my dad is doing the same.

                      Nice poem too!

                              remembering my father

Jay I'm a parent of grown boys. They always think I love the other one more. That is never true. We love each for their accomplishments and grieve so terribly for each ones pain. It is harder for a father to show that grief than it is for a mother, I think. It often looks like harshness when it is an unsuccessful way to show love.

Know that your father loved you so much. Fathers just do that, whether they show it or not. You know it in your heart.

What a beautiful poem. I always enjoy your poems - what a sensitive man you are. How nice that you visited your father.
Rest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.
