    Puppy solution

    Well Wendy, whose 11 weeks, keeps having accidents in house. She sleeps with us and that's just plain gross to wake up to. So do we do the sensible thing and kennel her at nite? I bet you can guess......NOT!

    So what did we do. We go to Petco and buy pants for her. She's sooo little they barely fit but if she doesn't back up they stay on okay. Then the price for the diapers!!!! Wow!!!

    We would have bought them at that, but they were out of extra small. So I had an idea.

    We went to K-mart and bought panty liners. Then when I got home I cut them in half and along the edges and voila, a diaper!

    They work too. For pee no poop. She has a little hole for poop.

    I'm going to upload a pic of her when I can get Joe to do so. It's sooooo cute.

    Second chance, I agree about the rolling over on her, yet, we seem to even in our sleep be aware of her. As for chewing on cords, etc., she can't/won't jump off our bed, it's too high, so she doesn't get in trouble that way at nite.

    Logically, I know you are right but........well if I was logical I wouldn't be struggling w/not drinking.

      How funny - I can just see this little maxi pad on the pup! I know it may not be popular - but I stuck my puppies face in the pee on the carpet and said a loud NO - don't know if that was it but he never did it again - 8 years old now and waits to hear the "time to go outside" ...

      But maybe the puppy is really really small? (age I mean)

      I love puppies .... mine is a BIG dog!! Even as a puppy was pretty big!

      Love to the puppy in diapers!

        Sorry hart...from the Heart...we got Kirk 3 months ago....your dog is not a child. He is a pet. Do not let him sleep with you. As much as you want to -bad choice. Trust me. I've done tons of reading and doing this alpha "dog" thing and it's done wonders. Dogs are under packs. They are either submisissive or dominant. They look to you as to what they should be. Kirk looks to me as an "alpha" leader. He respects me. I tell him down & he goes down. I tell him sit & he sits. I do not let him on my bed. Why-I read that it makes the dog feel equal to the owner (sharing the same space). NO BED!
        Kirk sleeps on a sit down couch below our bed & also when my daugher & I take him out~we are the first to walk out. Kirk is a happy boy. We respect him and adore him to no end.

          oooh -good post Breez - my husband taught me that with our dog also - He is a BIG German Shep - all the more reason for me to be the Alpha.

          Recently I used this same process with some humans that are trying to be the "alpha" over me - and it works well on humans too!!

            Well Breez, you are right, I had heard that too, but........ We let both dogs and all three cats sleep on our bed if they want. We are thinking of getting a second bed.....for ourselves! :H

                My dog sleeps on the bed too but only when my husband is not there as he will kick her off. As soon as he gets out of the bed in the morning she gets in. I know its a bad habit but she is the only one that loves me unconditionally! Once when she was a puppy my husband was off work sick and still in bed and the dog had sneaked onto the end of the bed. I was heading off to work and I said goodbye my sweetest darling I hope you will be ok without me today. My husband groaned and said oh I should be ok. I said I wasnt talking to you I was talking to the dog!
                My dogs name is savvy short for sauvignon blanc! Sad eh!

                    My dog and cat have both always slept with us. Well a couple weeks ago we bought Casey a dog bed. She's getting older and I didn't want her to be uncomfortable on the floor if the jump into bed was getting to hard for her. She loves her new bed and sleeps there every night. She does still sleep in our bed during the day when we are gone, but at night, she prefers her bed for some reason.

                    I'm sure the diapers are cute, but Wendy is a baby. If you don't break her of this now I'd be afraid you'd have to keep her in diapers her whole life.

                      I have three dogs, they sleep in the guest house. I made them an indoor garden in there with artificial K-9 grass. If you have a spare room that would work just as well. Of course a pup alone might cry for lack of companionship so be careful the pup is in there only for short periods of time. Small dogs are notorious for not being able to hold it all night, mine were going in their crate so I made them the indoor garden. They've been crapping on it for years and love it :H.

                        My doggy would sleep with me and jump off the bed when he needed to go out. I did not mind getting up for the 5 min it took him. Damn, I miss that dog.

                          Just read this post and would like to add that for the first few months I did not get much sleep with my puppy when it came to potty train her. She is coming up to 6 months and is completely trained. I never had her sleep in our bed (although before I go to bed she is welcome to sit up on the bed). However I put her in her crate to sleep and if she wants to go for a wee at night she will bark and let me know. The crate is kept in our room.

                          I read that dogs are creatures of den so the point behind the pen is that she will not want to do her business in the same place she sleep/rest. Dogs are pre-programmed to go away from the place where they sleep/rest. Also as for going for wee apparently as a rule a puppy can hold their bladder for 1 hour plus how many months. So for your puppy say 2 months + 1 hours = 3 hours max.

                          Although the crate has been a God send, try not to leave your puppy in their all the time. I only use it now for when she goes to sleep. For times when I can't supervise her or have guests over who are not fond of dogs I'll leave her in the pen with a wee mat in their should she have an accident.

                            Lucky, diapers on babies are not ridiculous. Wendy is a baby. So I'm a little nuts about animals......er some would say just that I'm just plain nuts :H

                            Wendy is doing so well. She slept thru the nite and didn't poop! Yes she did pee in her diaper and as soon as we got up she went out and pooped and peed.

                            I'm sure she will be thoroughly trained soon. But for us, this works! I'll try and get Joe to download pics tonite. He was drinking when I got home...boy was I pissed!!! But that's another thread.

                              Small dogs are notorious for accidents even when full grown, mine are confined to the first floor of our house for this reason :H
                              I wouldn't consider diapering my 3 pounder a big deal at all, she is such a princess.....those tiny ones are a whole different animal :h
