    I need a push

I am trying to face life here. I know this probably sounds dumb, but I just need a dumb part-time job to supplement my child support income while I get re educated. But I am afraid. I don't really know why. I have been a stay at home mom for years, I am still youngish, but I am afraid and feel self-conscious.
It probably would be fun. Any encouraging or pushy words?

      I need a push

      Hi Lila,

I understand where you coming from. I am also a stay at home Mom and have been one for 10 Plus years and do you know what I did last week. I went out and filled out and application and the local grocery store! (haven't heard back yet) I thought that might be a fun place to work part time to get me out of the house, talk to people! I live in Minnesota too! If you are anything like me, we have been stuck in the cold, dark house for to long with no self esteem. It is time for us! My kids are getting older and don't need me as much and will be going off on there own soon.... My town is so small so it doesn't even have a Caribou Coffee, I thought that would be fun, so try that if you have one close by, or a Hallmark...something.

The point is, what have you go to loose? Nothing!

      You can do this!

Feel the fear and do it anyway?
        It won't kill you?
        You may love it?
        Just do it?
There are way worse things to face?
If you don't like it you can stop?

Are these all the sorts of things to give you a push? :l

            I need a push

I don't know where I read it, but there was a study on moms. They discovered moms that were full time workers were unhappy. Moms that were stay-at-home were unhappy. The moms that were working part-time and part-time at home were the happiest.
I learned this when my child was very young and it helped with the guilt of wanting to work, but also wanting to be by her side at all times.
I think you should go for it....The j-o-b possibilities are endless and fun!
I am a teacher, but every summer I take on a new summer job, for fun! I've done landscaping, bartending, life guard, park ranger....the list goes on. It is your life....now go and grab it!!!!

            oh BTW.......PUSH!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you all so much for writing. I feel self consicous. Maybe all this icky feeling stuff will fade away - it has been 13 days, and I have been stuffing myself with supplements.
Maybe I'll even go around today and apply places. Day care? I wonder if you need a degree for that? I'm almost there. Caribou...I love coffee.

                Lila,

I think having a part-time job is just what your self-esteem needs right now. It will give you a sense of accomplishment. It's a great feeling to be contributing to soemthing. Going to work everyday knowing that people are looking forward to seeing you and counting on you to help them out with whatever your tasks are.

You will find a sense of pride that you seem to miss right now. And as I write this I realize that I need to follow my own advise too! So thank you for helping me. You are an inspiration!

                Good luck. Keep us informed.

No degree required as an aide. Um... as far as I know. I think you can be a teacher's aid but that may be full time. That's why I suggested day care. May be more flexibility. I have a friend that works for UPS part time and gets full health benefits. Hours nobody would want, but with the cost of health care...

                    I need a push

I think a part-time job is a great idea. I am retired (relatively young) and am thinking about doing the same thing! I have to find something to occupy some of time so that I can avoid some of the boredom that makes me want to drink. Find something that will help you meet a lot of people that is low stess and would be fun for you. It will stimulate your mind and give you some extra money.

Don't worry about being self conscious! The more applications you fill out and more interviews you have the easier it will get. Hey, you may get hired on the spot!

                    Good luck, Gabby.

I've been at home for over four years because of an illness. Last year I got to the stage of being able to go into work part-time and I was SOOO anxious about it. I was so self-conscious about my abilities, the way I looked (I've put on 30lbs since being ill and my skin looks awful), and interacting with others. Frankly I didn't want to get out of the house. Apparently this is quite normal for people who've been home a long time, whether through illness or motherhood.

The good news is that I feel so much better for doing part-time work. It gives me more structure and routine to my week, it is really great to interact with other people, and it gives me a real sense of pride when I'm acknowledged for my good work. Just getting dressed up and putting some makeup on seems to do wonders for me.

So go for it Lila, you can do it and you'll be so glad you did.

I have worked with a lot of people that have wanted to enter the workplace and have found that joining a temp agency is the best way to go. Account Temps, Manpower, Robert Hath and Associates are all good places to start. You will receive better pay, training, different assignments and most of the time people land full-time positions if that is what they want.

Google temp agencies in your city. You would be surprised how many of them are located in small towns if that is where you live.

PM me if you need any additional info.

Most of all it will most likely be fun for you to learn new things and meet new people!
