    what nationality is everyone?

guess what? im irish.. hehehe.. typical of an alcoholic. ive never known a full italian having a drinking problem. im sure some do of course. so whats everyones nationality here?

im pretty scared about pissing off my boyfriend. we fight constantly, and he wants me to stop drinking. he himself has a drinking problem, but keeps it to a buzz mostly, not getting blasted out of his mind like me. we sometimes drink at home and watch a movie. last night, we did. and we fought. and i ALMOST but stopped myself, went up to the bar after to meet my male friend greg. this would have made my bf fuming and go back to the attitude of " if you dont stop drinking we're done"in fact i didnt go to the bar bc i knew i was alreay drunk and tired, not bc it would piss him off. he cant stand me meeting males at bars, or having male frieds in the first place. its an issue. but my point here is that i would almost go do that when im drunk. i tend to always do things that will get me in trouble when im drinking. i guess alot of us do.

          Hi,
I'm an Irish person that lives in Ireland so no need to wonder why I drink too much - alcohol is everywhere here, a national pastime.

I'm Italian-American. So, yes, there are people w/Italian ancestry who drink too much. My father (1st generation Italian-American) is an alcoholic. Mary

I think we did the ancestry thing a while back in Trixie's thread; so as far as my nationality goes I'm British (white caucasian) Born in Liverpool, home of the Fab Four (come on people get with the program..The Beatles!!!lol). I lived in Liverpool for 3 years before getting the Ferry Across the Mersey (Jerry and the Pacemakers) and living on The Wirral Peninsula where I still reside.

                              what nationality is everyone?

                              Hi Me145,
Yes - there is a huge drink culture in Ireland - drink is a big part of a lot of what we do - going to the pub, chilling out at the weekend, celebrations etc. etc. If you don't drink it is almost seen as strange or you would be slagged off as not being able to handle your drink.
However, it has also started to be seen as a huge problem especially amongst the younger age groups - over half of 12-14 year olds surveyed recently admit they binge drink, sometimes a couple of times a week (about 5 drinks in one go) and use drugs regularly and that the amount they drink has increased by nearly twice that by the time they are 19. It is pretty easy for people to buy booze here - it is sold in most shops, supermarkets etc. and of course our drinking age for pub goers is generally 18, lower than your 21 (it is 21 there isn't it?). However, while alcohol is a big thing here I am not so sure that it is so different in many other countries but I do think one of the really big problems here is in educating people and in trying to get help. There is a real shame associated with it here and it appears to be much harder to access services. To be seen as having a 'drink problem' can lead to a lot of stigmatisation, especially in a small town where everyone talks, and a disaster in terms of your job/career so many people say nothing and hide it as best they can. Hopefully this too is starting to change.
                              Best Wishes,
                              Bandit
