I can only imagine how much you miss Alan. He sounds like a wonderful person with a great big heart and a loving soul.
It appears you carry on in his footsteps.
Your post drives home so clearly that we are not bad people because of our alcoholism, we are often good people, and in the case of your brother, great people, who have a horrible problem we must learn to deal with.
My condolences for your loss.

Cedar, I'm so sorry for your loss. Yes, here there are many who truly understand, TRULY.
Sometimes I think the kindest people are more prone to alcoholism... maybe their hearts are so big that they just can't handle all the evil in the world without numbing themselves to it.Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

I am sorry for your loss. This is the first Father's Day for Bear's three children. He was killed on May 8, 2008 by a drunk driver.
