So sad to lose your brother at such a young age, I can tell you were close to each other.

My sons were also called up for the bush war, and were very affected by the things they saw and the things they were ordered to do.

        Happy Birthday Alan RIP

        Bless you Cedar xx

Thank you for telling us about Alan, Cedar. He sounds like a very special man. My heart goes out to you today.

I feel for all the young people that must go to war. It is so traumatic for them--beyond what many of us can comprehend.

            Happy Birthday Alan!
            Rest in Peace

Many hugs for you today Cedar. :l:l

Thank you for that heart felt thread... I lost my grandfather (suicide) to alcohol and a cousin ages 67 and 40 respectively, I know that it is so familial... It scares me that the genes are so strong.
I think this site really helps us heal at the pace that is right for us.
May our choices today not result in regret, but rather be wise

Cedar, I am so sorry for your loss. Alan sounds like a special man. I hope your day was filled with good memories of him. And be proud of him for the things he did like sneaking food to prisoners. My guess would be that acts like that gave people hope and helped the transition from apartheid be peaceful.

so many people have lost so much - directly or indirectly to alcohol
anything that can curb these statistics is worth gold
