Did you know that alcohol is illegal in Saudi Arabia??

I dont know what rock ive been living under but i only found out on the weekend that alcohol is prohibited in Saudi Arabia.

I went out to a Lebanese restaurant for dinner on the weekend with a friend from Saudi Arabia and this is when i found out about the muslim law that alcohol is completely illegal.

At the time we where sitting next to a table of 15 young people who were up belly dancing and by looking at their table had consumed a table full of empty bottles.

Then i got thinking how much easier it would be for people like us to be af if we had that law in our countries. The constant social temptation would'nt be there, accessibility would make it hard to slip down the road and buy a bottle of alcohol and we would all have to learn how to socialise without been intoxicated. I think life would be alot simplier that way.

Let me know your thoughts on this one?

You would be surprised how many young Muslim's are now attending AA meetings in this country. I was actually reading in the paper a month or two back about a Muslim guy who had taken over an old run down Irish pub in his hometown and turned it into an alcohol free bar. I know it's mainly young Muslims who go in there but I think it would be a good idea for something like that within the wider communities too.

I think Sweden has the right idea as well where you don't get the likes of these Bargain Booze places selling cheap wines and beers at knockdown prices. They only have a handful of off-licenses or wine merchants who sell it at rather over-inflated prices. I may be wrong about this as I was told this from a very good Swedish co-worker over 10 years ago!!. The laws over there may of changed dramatically but I somehow don't see why they should of if things have been working this well so far. Maybe beatle can chip in here and tell me otherwise.

It is the Koran that forbids all consumption of alcohol.

In Ontario, Canada, all the liquor stores are Government operated and the mark-up is substantial. The sin tax imposed pays for part of our health care system.

AL IS NOT PERMITTED IN SA.....YEP THAT IS TRUE. MAKING AL ILLEGAL WON'T TAKE THE PROBLEM AWAY...EVER HEAR OF MOONSHINE? AND POT IS ILLEGAL AND I PERSONALLY COULD NAME AT LEAST 25 PEOPLE THAT SMOKE IT DAILY. I NEVER GOT IN TO THAT SCENE...AL WAS ENOUGH FOR ME...BUT I KNOW PLENTY OF FOLKS THAT DON'T DRINK BUT DO ILLEGAL DRUGS. IF U WANT IT...U WILL GET IT.
