You know you're an alcoholic when...
You read this thread and think 'I'm not that bad - I've never done anything like that'. Then you read the next post and think, 'Actually, I've done something just like that'.
You're glad it never occurred to you that Listerine had 15% alcohol content because you can relate to the post about skulling nasty cheap cooking vermouth straight from the bottle because it's the only booze left in the house and it's too late to go to the bottle shop.
You decide, while smashed, that it's a great idea to 'trim' your eyebrows with an electric shaver and end up removing half of one completely. You make up an elaborate story about how the waxing girl did it.
I, too, have one too many drunken slut stories. I always thought of the kissing girls stories (multiple) as just 'youthful experimentation' though. Then again, they all involved copious amounts of booze and often drugs too.
(Though for the record I can't condone the term slut unless it's being applied equally to the men I was drunkenly shagging and I wouldn't have any issue with being bisexual if I were but - despite all the 20-something girl kissing - I'm not.)

When you hide your bottle in the washing machine as you know your husband won't find it in there!
You know you're a (recovering) alcoholic when you go into your old liquor store and the guy asks you where you've been, he thought you moved! This is the same guy you used to moon on a regular basis, because you had drunkenly driven to the corner store in your "jammies", slipped in the beer aisle and your oh-so-fashionable-too-small yoga pants slipped down over your bum (and of course you're going "commando" = no panties). But you just giggle, pull up your pants, grab another 12 pack and head home. It would have been humiliating if it wasn't so damn funny at the time, right? When you finally get an opportunity to empty your stash dump and there are 37 empty 1 liter boxes in there.
When you use an ottoman as a stash dump.

When you are in the garage asking your mother-in-law to watch your 4 year old because you have to go "away" for 30 days. She looks over at your WALL of empty beer bottles and says "Well that doesn't look very good for your case". uch::heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

You know you're an alcoholic when...
Reading over this thread is so helping me in these early days of breaking old habits and planning an AF life. I can relate to a lot of stuff in here, and those escapades I didn't get up to were purely due to luck and lack of opportunity, not due to any restraint or "good behaviour" on my part!
I don't know whether to laugh or cry, and whether I can bear to share some of my own humiliations so early in my journey! But I it also helps me to list the main reasons I want to be AF, the positive stuff rather than dwelling on my awful behaviours while drunk...
1) I want to be healthy and live a long time and enjoy my well-earned retirement when I get there!
2) I want to remember the fun I had and the time spent with friends and family, not be ashamed of what I said or was told I did, or anxious about what I can't remember
3) I want to really live my life, feel every experience, not be constantly hungover or fuzzy
4) Most of all - if my husband drops dead suddenly I want to look back with happiness on all the wonderful times we spent together talking and enjoying each other's company, not a fog of blurry weekends which I spent mostly bombed-out on alcohol, asleep or embarrassing myself and him.
I'll keep rereading this when I feel my commitment wobbling Thanks guys x:alf:
AF Day 1 = 27-08-2012
