    Here I am again!!!!

I haven't actually left, reading every day, but not writing. I need a bit of inspirational help. I have been doing ok off and on for about the last year. Just had 15days AF. But still getting the urge that I want/need to have a drink. I am getting so sick of this. I have found the best non alcoholic wines, Edenvale, and have been happy to have these. My problem is when I go and meet hubby at pub, I end up having a red wine. I don't know if it is habit or not. But when I have 1, I want more. I ended up having a whole bottle last night when I got home. Don't really think it did much for me, and feel lousy today, so WHY AM I STILL DOING THIS!!!! I can't have just 1. Wish I could, but it always has to go further. I know most of you will say, don't go to the pub. I still want to have my socialisation though, and with my hubby, this is my problem not his, so I don't want to stop his normal life, I want to be part of it too. I had been having tonic water in a wine glass at the pub and was enjoying it, but now find it boring. Alcohol has always been such a huge part of my life and it is very scary to comprehend not having it again, even though I know that really is the only thing for me.
Anyone got any suggestions for me to get back on track, I have just started my campral again and I still have some naltrexone.
    What do I do????

    Here I am again!!!!

Welcome back to posting. I have found the thing that helps me most is being on thread where I and othes post daily about progress. I can't address the medication issue, but since you have them I would take them. If you have tried the kudzu and l-glutamine and are still overdrinking, you probably just need to give it up. You just have to say no to the craving. Tonic and lime is good. Does the pub have AF beer?

Hi, I'm not too sure if I can shed any light on this other than to say the liver of a drinker is entirely different from a non drinker. In order to deal with the alcohol excess the liver builds new cells, so that when we drink, that liver is so willing to accept it, until it's saturation, which is a hangover, and which is why problem drinkers build up a tolerance.

I am describing this as was defined to me by my doctor some time ago.

The vitamin regimen that our founder, R.J. has suggested with endless research is our way to help. The L-Glut and Kudzu are imperative to calming the cravings.

      I wish you recovery.

          Thanks for replying.
I was getting a little despondent with the site as I noticed a little while ago 20 people had viewed my thread, but not 1 reply and someone had put a rating of 2 stars on it.......which means bad!!!!! What is going on. Thought this was where we came if we needed some extra help and motivation. I used to come on here if I felt down and it was great, but seems it has changed.
For the ones that have replied, thanks for the suggestions. No they don't have any AF drinks at the pub apart from the normal soft drinks. I have been tempted to ask the publican if I can keep a bottle of my non alcoholic wine there. At least it makes you feel the same as everyone else. I still might do that.
I don't think I am alone in this problem or way of thinking. And yes you do still want to feel that you have a social life.

debruce, yes things have changed. There are many more members and the older members tend to deal with long term sobriety issues - no they don't ever end, it is a long journey.

This is one of the reasons why the there is a Starting out/Newcomers thread. I would suggest you begin again there. This is a journey and it all starts with 1 step. Many who have struggled to step 50, 100, 1000 are still struggling.

Welcome back, and let's start the journey over again.

              Hi Debruce,

I think it's worth a try to ask the publican to stock AF wine for you if you know him well enough.

I would not worry about the rating. 99.9 % of the people on the sight are very supportive. It may have been someone in a bad mood, or an accident. Good idea to ask them to carry (or let you bring) non-al wine. Try some other things than just plain tonic water too, like club soda and cranberry juice. It is hard finding other ways to socialize at first, but millions of people do it (I'm hoping to become one of them)

                    Hello Debruce,
When you're an alcoholic, you're an alcoholic and whether it is drinking in a bar or secretly at home - the addiction is there. I did well and has slipped right back to the bottom of the pit. I am a secret drinker. No problem with socials - there I can drink 1 or 2 and then stop. My obsession/compulsion is to have wine at home, hiding bottles, and some really sick feeling of accomplishment drinking on the sly.I will do anything to stop! Because in the end I'll rather die then go on like this
You are welcome to pm me and discuss it futher. I know I must not, cannot ever have a single drink again but this beast is powerful and I feel quite desperate.
                    Jessie

                      Thanks guys.
Captnjack, the non alcoholic wine that I have found is called Edenvale. It is available at Coles, Bi Lo and Dan Murphys (well that is where I live). I found out about it on the Derryn Hinch web site. He has schirrosis of the liver and had to give up alcohol. The champagne can be passed off as the real thing!!!
There is a website which will tell you all about it.
                      xx

Have a look at the website it might tell you something. It is Edenvale Wines.
Their Shiraz is nice too. It has all the benefits of red wine, but without the alcohol. It still has all the anti oxidants. Apparantly it is alcoholic wine, but then goes through a process to extract the alcohol. Obviously not quite the same, but still good enough. Just have to work out a way now that I can take it to the places where I would normally buy alcoholic wine.
