    Independence Day

This thought occurred to me right after I woke up this morning. Independence Day. If this were MY Independence Day, what can I celebrate being free of, and what do I WANT to be free of. Here's what came to mind:

I am free of: AL. I am celebrating Independence from AL today! woo hoo!!!

I WANT to be free of: anger, jealousy, fear, cigarettes, excess fat, financial stress, disorganization (like in my house and my life!). By this time next year, I could make a good dent in that list!

    Anyone else? Whot you got?

    Happy Independence Day !!!

Wishing ALL of us freedom and peace -

        "Anyone else? Whot you got?"

hahaha - I immediately thought "strife".

To free myself from my enabling tendancies.

To free myself of control issues.

Those may take care of fear and anger, or put a dent in them anyway.

Wonder I want to be free of the Brits ( Old UK ) at least you guys had the courage to fight them off . We still celebrate the Queens Birthday here in OZ ra ra ra and all that . "oh, and family strife" want that too ...... one of them rings up....... I LUNGE for the bottle (not the case now) god bless them "they are me" but how do you tell a loved one to "not come around bit busy at the moment" without feeling like a complete asshole. Anyway...... A VERY happy INDEPENDANCE day to you guys you are a great nation..... or though a little over bearing at times like a big brother who means well.

            Independence Day

Right now the freedom from alcohol is just too great to think of others. I am so happy to be AF this independence day and I really am focusing on that today.

Here is a poem by Emma Lazarus written for the inauguration of the Statue of Liberty (though it wasn't included in the festivities on that day). The iconic second verse, the one we know, is written on the base of the statue.

                  The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
                  With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

                  Emma Lazarus, 1883

                    Independence Day

Oh, Wonder, I can copy both your lists (minus the cigs). I don't smoke, so I am one up on you.

But, Lordy, how I ditto, ditto, ditto everything else!

My new motto (sorry if I repeat myself) has been "I'm taking my life back!". That is how I have seriously felt since being AF and I have all you amazing people to thank for that.

Happy Independance (from AL) Day everyone!!!
