August- Come One, Come All
I'm in! This is day 6 for me, second time around. I was AF in Feb and March, moderated successfully in April May and June, but was increasing in July. I work part-time in the summer, and I have not yet developed my repertoire of things to do when I have a lot of time available. I love gardening, reading books, reading about gardening, but that glass of wine on the patio has a special allure for me. I have come a long way since I joined here in January, but I am still a work in progress. I may try moderating again in September, but maybe not. August will be a good time of reflection, especially since my husband will be away for a couple of weeks. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

I'm in - after a month of moderating and struggle - I'm looking for the inner peace of AF days . . . . . but I'm beginning today - have an important date on 30 August and this will give me a full 30 days AF.
PxShort term goal 7 days AF

Not to be a downer but...
OK I haven't even started AF August and I am already getting nervous. When I tried my 30 days in June, I just kinda decided one day - it was June 4, actually. Caved twice. Now, that I have planned better, maybe this is a better way to go. Getting AL out of the house is not an option cause hubby drinks (some of you know this). I did tell him I wanted to start another 30 on Aug 1 and he is "supportive" but he will drink during dinner and the rest of the evening, regardless of what I do. I am not trying to blame hime but it makes it harder, and frankly it's an issue thatI don't know what to do about.
I have been avoiding so many issues and problems and getting more and more scared. I want this to be the "right time" but again, am scared of failure, and what it may really mean if I can't do this.
Again, not to be discouraging but that is my mood today. Hubby and I have a date night planned tonight (specifically I chose today, cause it's before Aug 1). Is anyone else feeling this way?

I think the right time is always today. I hope that doesn't sound too harsh, it is just what worked for me. My husband also drinks, but he is able to stop while I have difficulty. There is always wine in the house, but I did 2 months AF before, and I will be successful again. Don't be afraid to try or you will never succeed. You have to start now believing in your own success.
My husband knows I need to do this. He puts his wine in a coffee cup so it isn't so obvious he is having some. I have already purchased a special AF beverage, which I look forward to having in a wine glass on the patio. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. CS when I started this program it was all about me sorting myself out - in fact it was our relationship on the rocks!
The other weekend although I fell off the rails hubby voluteered to go AF with me, I had never mentioned it before so it was a wonderful surprise as I don't discuss what gets said on this forum (it's my space). Anyway he has great self control so it's going to be a walk in the park for him but I just can't see him going the full 30 days... he does enjoy his "well deserved drink at the end of the day"...."The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it"

Im in. My husband has joined my in my AF journey and that has helped. Mutual encouragement got me almost three weeks, then I fell. He didnt berate me or make me feel worse about it, just told me to chalk it up to a learned lesson and start again. Here's to August in Arizona and LOTS of iced tea!!!Do my issues make my butt look big?

When I asked hubby in May or June if he would do a few nights a week AF with me, he said "this is about you -- not about me and not about us." Well, I think it is about us. It's huge, IMO. So he will "support" me but really only to a point. And that is scary. (in terms of our marriage/family.) Eek.

CS04, that's also somewhat true of my husband. He calls it "your problem". We don't talk about it much at all. When I went AF free the first time, his first question was, "I don't have to quit, do I?" But he really doesn't have an alcohol problem, so at some level he's right. Our marriage of 27 years is pretty good, though not perfect. We have no kids, and we tend to lead our own lives. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12.
