    Sobriety Songs?

It's Friday and some of us will have bigger struggles with drinking... I noticed the thread about people who have quit drinking, and had a thought: How about a list of songs that support sobriety? It would be a great playlist for an ipod or mp3 player... ?

I have a Lucinda Williams song in mind, it has the line: "when we were drinking... " and "now I am sober... " trying to remember the name... I'll post it when I have the name.

    Others???

"How ever much I booze" ( there aren't no way out) Pete Townsend. Album ( showing my age I mean CD The WHO by numbers). I love the WHO I have freinds who have disowned me for admitting this !!!!! the sceptics can bugger off I say HA and "Love Reign Over Me" on Quadrophenia talk about when you listen to a tune and get those tingles up the spine thats great music!!!!

      Good ones, Cap.

I can't find that damn song, with "when we were drinking" in it... it ISN'T Lucinda Williams, tho.

How about "The Needle and the Damage Done"? Who did that one?

hahaha... yeah onetwo, we gotta be a bit careful about WHICH messages we are listening to in these songs, yes???? I can think of a LOT of them that I really don't want to be listening to, at least not over and over again...

            Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley.....

From Wikipedia: ".... centralizes on a couple who separate and eventually drink themselves to death because they cannot cope with being apart...."

Always reminded me that no matter how big the issue or how much pain you are in, there is always an alternative to alcohol - you just need to be willing to look for it.

Well one 2 that maybe a Pogues song saw them when they came out here...... I love Shane MacGowan but they might as well have wheeled him out in a coma he was off his nut very dissapointing. Any way DIRTY OLE TOWN by the Pogues I love that song "I kissed my girl by the factory wall" as far as songs about AL take your pick " Streams of Whiskey" but my favourite is "Fairytale of New York" what a beautiful song. Another movie you might like is a doco about Shane called "If I Shall Fall from Grace" but be warned make sure your happy because its so sad to see what alcohol does to such a tender and talented soul its a bit of a downer but no glamourised shots its shows the destruction Alcohol addiction has warts and all. Very sad but we are not gonna let that happen to us are we its a crock

It's not a AF song but it makes me tap my toes and puts a smile on my dial....

"Sweet Home Alambama" I don't know who sings it but they play it on the radio about 10 times a day and I just can't be down when I hear it

                      Sobriety Songs?

seems I could think of way more drunk songs .

But this one popped into my mind:

I Hope You Dance (Lee Ann Womack)

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder (!)
You get your fill to eat
                      But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
                      I hope you dance
                      I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
                      Living might mean taking chances
                      But they're worth taking
                      Lovin' might be a mistake
                      But it's worth making

Don't let some hell bent heart
                      Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
                      Reconsider
                      Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
                      I hope you dance
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always)
                      I hope you dance
                      (Rolling us along)
                      I hope you dance
                      (Tell me who)
                      I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their years and wonder)
                      (Where those years have gone)

                        Nice thread....

I often think of Squeeze "Labelled with Love"

Reminds me of my mum who was a raging alcoholic with lots of sadness in her heart.
