I love how different everyone is! ... I while back I read "EasyWay" and I wanted to jump on top of it and set it afire!! I am not kidding! It read to me like a warped, narcissistic, bully's rant. I could barely choke through it. I'm not saying there's not a single useful word in there, but I put the thing in the recycle bin with the rest of the trash. I would never want to sit next to that guy at a dinner party! That said...good luck to each of us in finding inspiration in beating this thing...

LOL yes it is funny how different we all are.

He is one of the most desirable people I would like to sit next to me at a dinner party (unfortunately he died recently) I suppose if I had a choice of 'live' famous people it would be Stewie from family guy, and err.. Brian from family guy.

LOL sorry, but it is Friday night.

Ha! I think I would poke him with my fork and scream "shut up!" if I were seated too close to him (that is, if he were still alive -- may he rest in peace)...but then again, I am certain I'd have had too much wine in my belly, and he would have been sober.

I do agree with you about Stewie, though...

He helped me quit the first time, made some good points. Sometimes he missed the mark - how many people here drink for "confidence?" - he spoke about that repeatedly. I believe he did not acknowledge that warm, relaxed feeling alcohol gives us in the first drink. All the other drinks are chasing after that feeling...

I agree that alcohol is poison...
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

            Hello all,

Now I'm really curious, and may just have to read that book. I am naturally suspicious of anything with the word EASY in the title, but may give it a go. Bought a few cookbooks that started with Easy . . . and I can tell you my family begged me to just stop. But anything to arm the arsenal!

              Is alcohol poison?

Why do you think being drunk is called being inTOXICated? Isn't something toxic the same as poison? We delude ourselves that, just because AL hits certain feel-good and relaxing neurotransmitters and receptors, that it's salubrious. If you follow what AL does or can do behind the scenes in almost every organ system, there's no doubt that it is poison, and it can kill you--slowly or quickly. But it's a very seductive poison, and needs an acquired taste which can be overcome. Carr's analogies, though simplistic, are colorful enough to visualize and transfer to practice. No preaching or AA stuff, and no cost-benefit analysis. He convinced me that there is NO benefit from drinking AL, that after deciding to stop, having even one drink is not even an option, and that there was no mental or physical defect that brought me to this stage--that drinking for pleasure is a huge habit-inducing illusion foisted on us by history, society and the alcohol industry.

I read Carr's book, and re-read the last two chapters regularly. He does a good job of setting you up psychologically for quitting, which I did after finishing it. Whether it will stick or not long-term, is still to be seen. It does prepare you to remain vigilant, however, so I'm determined to make that answer, "yes."
