      DAY 7 AF Free Army

Hi Amelia & Marbella and all soldiers to come!

      Day 5 for me today.
Found Saturday evening the hardest, not just the habit of having a few drinks on a Saturday night, but experiencing the worst headaches I have ever had - especially around the time I would normally start drinking. Once I get through that then I am ok.

Eating sweets etc. though to beat the band so will have to watch that - might try a few of those beers Amelia.

Best wishes to all for today

        Hey Bandit,
Sorry about the headaches..I have had couple of them. I figure it's just my body getting rid of crap..toxins and stuff. Hope they don't bug you for too long...lots of water may help.
Good on you for your 5 days!!

          DAY 7 AF Free Army

          Good Morning/Day/Afternoon my Soldier friends!!

It is wonderful to be marching with all of you. I wake up every morning and look for this thread.

I have remained sober throughout this time and feel like a new woman this week. Waking up with a clear head and having more energy. Of course, I am taking my ALLOne, SAMe to help my liver and mood, B vits and Omega 3,6,9. Add to that the Antabuse and Gabapentin and I feel like all I am doing is taking pills!!

Anything to keep me busy!! :H

It is good to see those who get wounded on the March getting right back up and healing. That is the only way to deal with our issue. Keep trying.

I am going to an AA meeting this morning. I know a lot out there don't like AA but I often need the face-to-face. My group is a caring and welcoming group, though. None of the "my way or the highway" kind of people there. They just offer support and phone numbers. No pressure to "work the steps." Just understanding. So I am very lucky.

Take care all and I will report in later.

          Love,
          Cindi

Great going, Amelia!! And Marbella, Bandit, and Cindi! I had a bad headache yesterday, too... full moon must have been working on all of our skulls, what a weird day it was, I am grateful to have gotten through it without drinking! Cindi, I get it about AA. I really got so much out of the 3 years I spent with the group I attended, and I sometimes think about going back. They can be incredibly helpful, and the face-to-face piece is something I really miss, too. My group was quite open and accepting, like yours (but my group disbanded at some point, I looked them up in the directory and they are gone)... My reason for not going back is that they tend not be so "open and accepting" about any ideas that are not taken out of the Big Book... maybe I should just "get over" that. We'll see.

I must admit, although I have issues with some of the AA philosophy if there were a meeting in my area I would attend.

It can't hurt to try and it can be great to meet with people and talk face to face about this.

Oh Well let's march on! I hate Sundays.

Marbella, Cindi, Amelia, Bandit and WIP,
Top of the mornin' to you! Amelia and Marbella, your day is almost winding up-I just dragged myself out of bed. Time zones won't stop this ARMY will it? Where are our leprechaun's this day? I'm glad you all are going strong, in the face of some upheaval on the site. Go forward and fight today's battle with ease. If everyone has a moment would you write a little about what positive changes you are each noticing physically. I am curious. Love to you and all those ready and willing to fight with us. kriger

Kriger, about the physical changes - here's a few I have noticed so far:

                      Blood pressure - down
                      Blood sugar - stable
Panic attacks - none so far
                      Eyes - clear
                      Appetite - up
                      Energy level - up
                      Anyone else?

                        DAY 7 AF Free Army

Eh, Sunday's are for sleeping late, even in the Army. (At least for me in this army.) I'm doing well. It doesn't seem to be as much of a struggle as previous times I've quit. Maybe I've just internalized it better, "I'm a non-drinker" rather than "I'm struggling to quit drinking". Dunno.

I'm sore from yesterday's bike ride, but I'm going out again. Fine weather like this won't last forever.

I, too, have started going to AA. Not sure it'll be a long-time thing, but for now I think it helps.
Q: How do I become the person I want to be?
                        A: Practice, of course.

LTG: How much has your blood pressure come down? Mine has been a bit high, and I have a Dr. appointment tomorrow when I'll get it checked. I've also noticed that I tend to lose about 3 pounds in the first few days when I quit. That's too fast to be metabolizing fat, so it suggests my fluid balance is off when I'm drinking -- and that might connect to blood pressure?

Lilnev, I agree with you about internalizing it better this time for myself as well. In my shout out today, instead of posting day 6, I posted AF since August 12, 2008. It just has to be a way of life for me, being a non-drinker that is. Can't struggle from day to day. I just have to live AF Stay strong and keep your eye on the prize

I don't how it is connected. Just know that is. I started at 198/139 and am down to 140/98 - no meds, just not drinking. BTW, that was on Thursday. I'll check again tomorrow when I go to the store.
