    Makes you think!!

    Makes you think!!

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She
hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He
was always there for her. She told her boyfrien d, 'If I could only see
the world, I will marry you.'

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came
off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked
her, 'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?'

The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight
of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought
of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left her in tears and days later wrote a note to her
saying, 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were
    yours, they were mine..'

This is how the human brain often works when our status changes.
Only a very few remember what life was like before and who was always
by their side in the most painful situations.

Before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak.
    ***************
Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who
    has nothing to eat.
    ***************
Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's
crying out to God for a companion.
    **************
Today before you complain about life ? Think of someone=2 0who left us
    too soon.
    ***************
Before you complain about your children - Think of someone who desires
    children but they're barren.
    ***************
Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or sweep -
Think of the people who are living in
    the streets.
    ***************
Before whining about the distance you drive - Think of someone who
walks the same distance with their feet.
    ***************
And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the
unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish
    they had your job.
    ***************
Before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another -
Remember that not one of us is without sin and we all answer to one
    Maker.
    ***************
And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your
face and thank God you're alive and still around.
    ***************
The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they
just make the best of everything they have.
    ***************
AMEN! I am passing this along as a reminder of how blessed we are.
It was a good reminder to me to thank God for the blessings He pours
    down on me!
stay strong and think positive everyone and have agreat day

Tlrgs, thanks for the great post. It reminds me that I cannot count on the memory of my last painful drinking episode to keep me sober. Over time the pain from it diminishes, the impact begins to blur, and I can start to look back and think that maybe having a drink wasn't so bad.

For me, it is only through constantly trying to enrich and grow my personal and spiritual life that I am able to get through the trials and tribulations that I face.

Thank you tlrgs -- I woke up this morning feeling sorry for myself and depressed and that's what I've been trying to do all day, count my blessings. This really brought it home for me. Thanks

Yes we all tend to get a little too wound up in our own existence.
I will print this out. I need to remember all of these.

                    Hi All
Trlgs great post to help us keep life in perspective. For the people just starting out to a sober life it is reading about the people who are successfully living a sober life for a long time that gives us motivation. It is also just as helpful for the long time AF people to be reminded by the new members of were we once were and how hard the fight is in the beginning. This is a unique team we are all members of .

                          Hi tlrgs,

Very good post - puts it all into perspective.
I think I will print this out and read it whenever I feel a dose of self-pity coming on. I can do self-pity very very well.

                              Beautiful post tlrgs,

I'm just so sad for that girl - her new eyes made her more blind to life than when she couldn't see.

And AAthlete, your comment that Hippie quoted is so right on! Double AMEN!! As my memories of misery begin to fade, I'm an ever more challenged to keep the sober faith! I'd be interested in reading a thread from you about what you've discovered in your new life - what's made a difference. Are you feeling more naturally sober, or are you in a constant battle? Can you guess I'm searching?? I think I'll print your words tlrgs - good reminder that there's always someone with less.
