    eye opener

Congats on your year - you should be so proud of yourself! I am sorry about your son. Why is it that everyone goes to CA to find themselves. I am a 5th generation CA girl living in PA (11 years this month) and could never understand it....guess it's the lure of Hollywood, sun and surf....I am sure that he will come around. It doesn't make you feel any better I am sure, and I can just imagine the stress that it has put on you. I wish I could help. I can however send good feelings and prayers your way. You are wise to give it up to God. He will show him the way. I am also glad you didn't let those snarky comments set you back...just not worth it. Anyway, things have a way of working themselves out. Just keep positive and positive things will come your way. Take care

Lucky was stating her opinion. Such is encouraged here! You don't have to agree with everyone but you do and should have to show respect! We are adults here and all want the same thing, to limit or restrict our alcohol intake. Let's be supportive of that goal and not disrespectful.

Thanks hart! Karbi's response to me was very hostile. WTF is that all about? Anyway, could not care less. And KBCE was out there with her "holier than thou" comment too but again, could not care less.

For those that are interested, here is a very informative link about 12 step. Others have appreciated it when I have posted it.

Lucky's post was based on the real science in the field of alcohol and other addiction treatment. I don't think it was meant to discourage anyone from engaging in any and all methods that they find helpful to get their lives free of alcohol abuse and addiction. But the truth really is that most programs have very low long-term success rates. Sad, but true.

Any kind of program that offers to help people to change their behavioral, emotional, or thinking problems should be put to the test: how effective (or not) is it? What are the long-term results? Proclamations of success in the form of testimonials from satisfied customers are NOT evidence of widespread effectiveness... AA, MWO, Betty Ford, the Minnesota Model, Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention, whatever, cannot claim success without some well-designed studies backing up the claims.

While that may have been Lucky's opinion she was, in fact, also correct that the STATISTICS of interventions and AA are not very good. Everyone calm down and stop being so sensitive. There was nothing wrong or rude about what Lucky said. Many different things work for different people. We are here to accept all different paths.
