Ive been on Anti-d's since I was 17.. and have been drinking ALL through my teens and twenties. God, if they were like antabuse, then Id be bloomin well dead by now.
If anything, they just lessen the effect of the anti-d.. cos alcohol=depressant as we all know.

Same as me Chelle! I was on seroxat for years in my late teens early twenties and I drank like a fish still. Anyway one YOU'RE NOT GOING TO DRINK ANYWAY ARE YOU??? ARE YOU??

    Love Hips xx

Hi One, SO proud of you for getting your backside off to the docs at last!
OK my 2p worth on the ADs. I am on Prozac and have been since May, they didnt work for me until I stopped drinking after 8 weeks of taking them. The first 4 weeks I had nausea and some headaches but nothing terrible. After I stopped drinking they kicked in beautifully and today I am happy as a pig in shite ) Oh yes, I also had counselling for a couple of months and that helped too!
Get em down your neck hun!

OK, wip's photo of the day from Florida is here! I got some more shots of those amazing Sandhill Cranes yesterday. They are so tame that they would do little except eat snails and groom themselves (so you can't see their heads, making for an unattractive photo!) unless I made noises. Finally I kicked a pile of brush in the water while I was standing practically right next to them, and they flapped their wings!

I was feeling kinda sickish yesterday, just over-stressed I think (even though I took time to go to the beach!), and eating funny (hard to eat properly on a trip). Had been eating sugary stuff, and really no vegetables or anything very healthy. Today I feel MUCH better, and I'm comfortable with what I accomplished here. Ready to head home to Kansas City. Will be traveling most of the day.

Startingover - Yep, Im definitely noticing a difference with the Prozac since coming off the booze. My GP said to me that I may as well not be on the prozac if Im drinking cos they wont work and boy, was he right (for once, lol). I was giggling away yesterday watching re-runs of Father Ted... and that was without any booze!
BTW.. the Father Ted episode was the "cigarettes and alcohol" one... the one where Ted gives up the cigs, Jack gives up the booze and Dougal gives up roller blading... SO funny... will have to find it and post it in the laughing out loud section.

What have you heard about, SO? I think problems along those lines are pretty rare.

Coming off the newer antidepressants (SSRI's) SOMETIMES is accompanied by a sort of zinging sensation that feels like it is coming from inside one's head. I did experience that while coming off Prozac once, and once I experienced it when I was actually taking Effexor, so I stopped it IMMEDIATELY (I was afraid it was a precursor of seizures!).

Otherwise, so far as I know, there are rarely any significant problems getting off the antidepressants.

Hi Wipster, when I was first diagnosed with depression I made it my mission to find out everything I could about it and medication to treat. I joined a forum that gave lots of personal accounts of the different drugs. This one is Venlafaxine isnt it? People seemed to post many horror stories about it. Yes, they mentioned the "brain zaps" too. I know we are all different but I am usually influenced by what I read and glad that I am on Prozac )

Yep, Effexor is venlafaxine. I wouldn't put TOO much stock in the internet horror stories BUT I would certainly not disregard them, either! We all know, or should know, not to trust the pharmaceutical companies to (a) do proper research or (b) tell the truth about the research that they have done. I would much rather see people on Prozac than Effexor.

Anyone remember the old Soda Stream!!! God knows what they put in those bottles of dilute but the dandelion and burdock tasted horrible! (to put it mildly!)
