VP Debate - And I am so ashamed

I am not making any political comments here. I don't want to go there. But I just watched the VP debate and I have been holding back such strong feelings for such a long time now. This debate just put me over the top.

I am very sorry that Sarah Palin is so dumb and presented herself as such a mindless person in recent interviews and in her totally stupid performance in tonight's debate. She never answered any question. Just like she doesn't know what magazines she reads or any Supreme Court decisions besides R v W. Give me a break.

I am speaking as a woman who has spent a long time of her life trying to be accepted as being as smart as the men in my same profession. I'm kind of old and it hasn't been all that easy in a male dominated field. I worked my butt off for years. And now we finally we have a female running for a major executive postition in our country, and she turns out to be a total idiot? I am personally offended. I am ten times smarter than her. Couldn't McCain at least pick a SMART female? There are lots of us out there!! WTF?

I fear that now women will been seen as incompetent, which I believe they are not. My husband watched the debate with me and said "oh, your gender is in big time trouble." I knew he was joking, but I knew what he meant.

I have to go. McCain did a huge disservice to women by choosing her.

He really doesn't know what it means to be a woman. We are not tokens.
Rest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.

    Mags,
I am so sorry to have missed it! I had a meeting during that time slot...bummer!!!

VP Debate - And I am so ashamed

I too watched the Katie Couric interviews, Saturday Night Skits (ROTFL) and VP Debate - why can't our leaders learn our grammer?

But here is what I am miffed about about. When I am finished with my job at the end of a hard day, I want my family to come up and greet me. "WOW, Honey! What a great performance" Hugs all around. "You did GREAT! That co-worker of yours did not stand a chance. You are sooo going to get that promotion. Here, hold the baby."

Then, I would kiss my Hubby and smile for the cameras and chat pleasantly with my co-worker, knowing that I totally kicked his ass. But in my head I would be insecurely wondering. But at the same time I would be thinking, "these shoes are killing me and can someone take the baby?"

I hear ya Mags, I watched some of it then got so annoyed I had to tune off. Glad this round is over. I am also reading up on it on CNN.

Sadly Mags I think many women (and men) thought she did well tonight. I saw her avoid nearly every question answered and somehow turn it into what she knew about energy. I saw her look almost annoyed when she was handed her newborn baby to hold because she had more important things to do. She was very scripted and I hope that was obvious to people. Biden spoke much more from the heart I thought. I consider myself an independent and I went into this fairly open minded.

I also want to clarify that I am sure she has been a wonderful Governor. It sounds like she has a lot of chutzpah and has gone against the grain. Good for her. I applaud that. But to be our potential next President? No fucking way.

We also had to turn it off. Although I ran the MSNBC feed on my computer until it failed.

I got a bit of a kick over her frosted hair, and her very high heels (are they Italian?). I find her heels quite extraordinary for a business woman. I can't put my finger on the message, but I think there is one there.

                Mags,

As a Canuck, who is also going through the pain of Federal election here, I feel your pain and frustration.
My party leader I can not understand ( very thick French accent), our current leader is so stone cold, the other opposition leader spews the same crap time and time again...but.... thanks gawd....

....There is Elizabeth May to the rescue!!! The underdog party ( Green) leader is smart, articulate, well read, informed and gives STRAIGHT ANSWERS!!! She will put this party on the map and has my vote! She is the anti-Palin, so know that there are some women out there that do have IT and save our gender BIGTIME! So relax... and oh, I am sure she wears Naturalizer shoes... lol!

Although Palin appears to be not the sharpest crayon in the box, I think after this week and debate, McCain appears to be that tiny, broken bit of crayon in the bottom of that box for putting her in that spot.

Does this mean I think Obama is better? Hell no! Just know that up North, we as well are not sitting with any real good options either...

                Over and out, eh!

Palin actually did somewhat better than I expected; you could almost miss the fact that she didn't answer some of the questions. What troubles me about her is that she seems like a freaking cheerleader, cheering on the McCain team. Rah, rah, sis, boom, bah! She is so relentlessly perky that it is hard to take her seriously.

I initially thought that McCain had made a brilliant tactical move in the chess game of presidential politics by choosing Palin. (Not that I thought she was a great candidate, necessarily.) I now think that he made a pretty big mistake. I must say that she is giving the pundits and humor columnists lots of material though.

It was a good debate, and I enjoyed watching it. I feel asleep on McCain and Obama.

Mags, I couldn't agree more. Everyone knows that it would be stupid to pick a VP candidate who is a stupid man (look what happened with Dan Quayle), but when a male politician picks a female VP candidate, his only criteria most likely will be (a) that she agrees with him, and (b) that she is pretty. This is absolutely infuriating to any woman intelligent enough to understand that this is what is happening, and who understands that it harkens back to the concept of women as property, and as adornment. Why would the politician worry about whether his VP candidate can think, or speak intelligently? Everyone knows women aren't expected to be able to do that (and those who are able to do so are probably ugly, anyhow.... [cue male snickering]).

I thought she did better than I ever expected, to be honest. I expected Biden to slaughter her and he did not. However, it may be because Biden recognized that would be a tactical error. I don't know.

I was not impressed with her knowledge and agree she was not the best VP pick.

Funny, I haven't considered the fact that she is a female and how her choice will affect what men think of women in general.

Now I am. Thanks a lot Mags!! :H

I am so sad I did not get to watch the debate. But knowing the candidates, I really don't think I would need to; it would have been for pure entertainment purposes. Biden could have wiped the floor with her; he is very knowledgeable about the Middle East (and yes Palin, there is more there than Iraq). I think that the idea of not smashing her into the ground is because of 1) let her make an ass out of herself and the Republicans can't blame it on lies etc. and 2) The Democrats are showing that they are trying to be bipartisan; they are "trying" to work together to solve problems.
I really do not see Palin as a cheerleader for McCain. I believe their differences are going to cause a problem in the long haul. I could bet there is a lot of bickering and fighting going on behind the scenes. Biden, McCain, and Obama are politicians. As bad as that may be at times, they understand that it is supposed to be about the people. Their actions may not represent it at times, but I believe, for the most part, they at least try to put their own agendas aside and listen to what their constituents want. Palin may be good for some because she is seen as a non-political bullshitter, but I see her biting her tongue. She is very opinionated and wants things her way. And guess what, I don't like anything she stands for.
I need to pay close attention to the elections in Canada; if Palin ever became president, I am moving.

My thought when I found out that McCain had picked her was - pandering. He just wanted the disaffected Hillary vote. On one hand I thought - pretty good political move - nobody is talking about Obama anymore on the other it's just cynical.
