    Drinking and posting

    Hi All
    This is not meant to start an argument .It doesn't bother me what people post on this site.Yes I can decide not to read a tread.I could care less personally if someone is drinking while posting but I am not on day one , or week one ,or month one.I have read some posts lately and worry about the people just starting out having to read about someone with a drink in their hand as they are posting.I know when I started out it would not have been a good image to have in my mind as I came here to get support.I came here at times when I was having cravings and the support that I got has helped me to get through the tough times.I am only asking that we keep other people in mind and where they might be in the fight.
    Maybe I am wrong and it doesn't bother people but I felt I had to bring it up.

    Caysea, it bothered me a lot, when I first got here. Not so much, now. I think it would be good if we all kept newcomers in mind as much as possible.

      I have not seen these threads you mentioned, but I agree with drinking while on here inappropiate. It's kind of like going to an AA meeting with a beer in hand. I know that this takes place in the comfort of our own home, but like caysea said, people turn here for support. Now as for it being posted on the Monthly Mod., that could be another thing. I haven't visited that forum, as I know I can't moderate. But if those moderating think it's okay, so be it for them.

        I have not seen any threads where people are posting drunk. Absolutely nobody posts drunk on mod threads - thats just so not what moderation is about. It is far more likely that a person posting drunk (if there are any that is) will be someone trying to go AF and slipping rather than someone modding. I have to say MM that is a most bizarre statement you have just made.
        Sometimes in the past people were accused of posting drunk when they were actually just being funny or having a laugh but its misunderstood - I put that down to cultural differences.

          Hi All
          If you read the tread it doesn't say anything about posting while drunk.It wasn't in the mod section that this occurred.Don't turn it into more than it is .Lets just help each other be it Mod or AF and be mindful of others.

            caysea I understand your point correctly and it ws not taken the wrong way. Yes there has been some bad blood recently. I'm afraid I was one of those idiots that got dissalusioned with this site and caused a 'problem'. Don't let that get in the way of your goals though. I'm an arrogant prick at the best of times!!lol

            How are you doing today anyway? Are you OK? How's things in your life?

              I think this thread might be referring to a recent thread where people talked about posting with a drink in their hands. They were not drunk, just saying that they were drinking regularly while reading and posting. Am I right?

                I just want to jump in and help where I can. We can read or ignore threads as we see fit. Someone who is posting drunk might just be putting out a cry for help. I hope that I can help in some way. If my mindset at that time is not strong enough to help then I can walk away. I just hope that I am able to remain non judgemental.
                I dont think there is any easy answer for this. For some it will be a trigger to read that someone has a drink in their hand and for some it wont it will be seen as a cry for help.

                  I have only read posts where people have written they are drinking while posting, but in a manner that they are not proud of it, and indeed they wish they weren't- and that is why they are probably posting.

                  I do not recall reading a post where someone is drinking and recommending it- personally I don't find it a trigger at all.

                    S.O., not to throw more unclarity into these muddy waters... but I have a problem with the idea that we can "read or ignore" stuff as we wish. For one thing, we can't tell what will be in a post until we have read it, and after that we can't un-read it or ignore it. For another thing, as to drunk posting, there is a sort of "slowing down and looking at the car crash" human impulse that is very difficult to ignore. If we were holding an AA meeting and there was a drunk person ranting and raving, or crying, or vomiting, or just quietly drooling at the table, it would be pretty hard not to glance over at him or her. And I think this is especially true for newbies who are still learning their way around here. I have gotten much better, after nearly 3 months of spending a LOT of time here, at figuring out what to read and what to ignore. But at first, I felt more at the mercy of whatever was being thrown out here.

                    At the same time... I really don't think there is any solution for either of these things: people posting and saying "hey, everyone, here I sit with a great big drink in my hand... " or people posting drunk. If it bothers some folks, then they are just going to have to be bothered, I'm afraid.

                      Yes you are right wip. I kind of have an idea of what the post will be like before I have read it all. I guess that is just because I have been here a long time...it would be different for newbies.
                      But I would hate to discourage someone for posting if they needed to drunk or sober.
                      Difficult isnt it?

                        I have been guilty of drinking while posting...But i have no other option at the moment...Its a catch 22 for me..Mwo is helping get into the right mindset when that day comes to get my meds in the very near future...

                        Saying that i can understand a very good point and will try to be mindful of what i post..:l
