                      AF Army 21st October 2008

Caps, I have a personal story for you, from the heart and the gut. I've spoken of my beloved Daddy before, but for the first 53 years of his life, he was alcoholic, gambling, womanizing, and generally a wild man. Now, granted, he was larger than life: handsome, huge, unearthly strong, smart, creative, sensitve, but we couldn't reach him. At 53, he had a life threatening illness, and he met his mortality. He saw us draw around him, his adult children hug, kiss, cry over him, sit nights in the hospital, never leave his side, bring him goodies, wait on him while he recuperated. He did recuperate, in more ways than one, and became a man among men. The alcohol alone had changed his brain so that he saw the years he had lost, the pain he had caused, but the absolute love his children still had for him. When he met his Lord, he had spoken to his late mother the whole afternoon before. He told me if he had not done enough to make up for his past, he would understand where his place in eternity would be. I assured him in our belief it was what was in his heart now. I held his hand at 1:00 A.M., prayed with him, told him I loved him, and he murmured back "I love you". He was gone within the hour. Those last years, however, seem like the only years we remember, tho they were only 15. What you do TODAY, and TOMORROW, are important. Yesterday is gone, and not worth spending your time on when you have work to do. Your family wants and needs you, Cap. Make it happen, please.
                      From a loving daughter.

Cap, My dad was an alcoholic for a long time. We had a bad relationship (im 28) and then he got sober and was sober for 8 years, and we had a wonderful relationship after that. He was in bad shape too, heroin, whiskey, pot. You name it.

Point is, its never too late to reconcile with your family and make things right!

Hope you come back to read this, Cap, because you could NOT be less of a fuck up than Daddy was, but my memory of him is only the Golden Years, tho unfortunately I was drinking by then and he wouldn't criticize me because of his guilt. I know I was very special to him, and he cried in my arms several times, which let me know I really knew the real, great man. He could have been anything, but he was MY Daddy! We love you too Cap, like a family, where everyone has missteps and bad days, and our cyber arms are open to the prodigals! Come back soon!
