      hiya one2many.
day 4 not too bad woke up with a fuzzy head???in a mood???

probably too much thinking for my brain.lol

i have a dilemma,my step dad has asked me to a bonfire party at the weekend.and everyone will be drinking.although im not ,never drinking again i want to just be a social drinker if there is a category of person like that, but i want to atleast to do 30days AF.
in my head im thinking' oh its just one day ' and also the fact that ill of only gone a week inwhich case im letting myself down.

i guess iv got to learn to see these times as social get togethers and not reasons to drink.

      mmmmmmmmmm

Notts, Vlad might answer that best as I remember her doing something simlar very recently. It's a personal choice, but understand if you're a problem drinker, it's probably too soon to try 'just a couple'. Everyone is different, can't tell what you will do, just from past experience. It's another big step and another big decision you will have to make on this journey with no destination. Is it possible to think of this bonfire as an AF adventure? You go, but AF, and watch, maybe record, take pics, video, for the rest, the night's festivities, and stay sober. It's much easier without the first drink.

NBH, if you are committed to doing 30 days AF, you might want to avoid social occasions in which there will be a lot of drinking. If you do choose to go, you will want to do a lot of preparation... taking your own AF drinks along with you, figuring out in advance what you will tell people about why you are not drinking. That sort of thing can make a huge difference!

Notts, I have given myself permission to have a drink cos its a full moon! Like Oney said, any excuse will do.
It gets easier and the moods do recede.
You are doing great, keep going!

Ruby, how are you feeling? Sounds as if what you are hearing from your doctors is not so great? Are you having a hard time?

Hi WIP, LTG. OK, Short version. Orthopaedic surgeon will remove pin in ankle to see if that helps the pain (& if I fall over when I stand up LOL), but loose bone in foot is like a pebble in your shoe. Surgery is complicated, and requires long 3-5 months) in wheelchair, so we're waiting on that. Pain specialist wants to anesthesize me and inject spine on 2x on both sides of my neck, to start. There are 3 other areas of my back of concern, too. I start intensive physical therapy as soon as I make appointment. I go to the neurologist today about FMS/MS. Then (oh HORROR) I have my teeth cleaned!!!! LOL And how is your day?!?!?!

My opinion? I think it's advisable to do the 30 days before attempting moderation. My first stint AF was 50 days but even after that I screwed up, drinking up to half a litre of vodka every night. Then did another 40 days, did a lot better at 'moderating' after that. Note, I've put the word moderating in inverted commas - I was still drinking pretty much every day, but at least it was only 2 beers. Also if I was invited on a night out, I seemed to take it as an opportunity to 'pull the line out' so to speak, and would have at least 10 drinks, e.g. after my 40 day stint, I screwed up at a birthday party and drank 13 cans of lager. I am finding now I'm going longer between slips, I have just recently done another 30 days for September and am now coming up to nearly a year since my last 'major' slip - I've had a couple of odd weekends were I've had 6 or 7 drinks - I class those as little slips!!! Also, think it's important to note I am still pretty much drinking 5 out of 7 days a week, still couldn't call it moderation - I think O2M's post has some very good tips.
