My world today....I need to set up Dr's appt for the baby. He's not hitting certain milestones and I'm actually getting worried (I'm normally a very laid-back parent!).

He's 16months but he is 9-12 months developmentally. He has no words, no animal sounds, not able to follow direction, not eating "real" food...but he is damn good walker/runner!

Shelby, I have the "words" concern for one of my grandsons. He is just about 18 months and only knows "dog". I think it's because SIL's family speaks to him in Spanish and we speak to him in English and he is confused.

Hubby says the same thing, o2. He told me his cousin who is a lawyer and then went back to be a surgeon did not speak until 20months. He's thinking we have a genius on our hands!

Like I said, I'm not normally a worrier...

He's not saying them and to be honest I really can not tell if he understands either. He's got mama and dada, but it is still mamamamamama, dadadadadadda, like a 9 month old!

Shelby, you're doing the right thing by having him checked. Doc will probably just say give it time. The thing about the words is when they learn and use them, then loose them, that's a time to worry.

And how do kids learn "mine"? Do we walk around the house saying everything is "mine" all the time...LOL!!

I never thought of that!

O2-Shelby was talking in sentences at 14 months and that is probably why I'm concerned. I need to stop comparing them. I know boys develop slower....but you can't help to worry!
